Looking for insight on how guys charge or bill for fuel surcharge?
Is it based on fuel prices?
Perhaps a percentage of the load?
Or based off miles?
Seems lots of shippers/companies wont budge on rates yet don't bat an eye at fuel surcharges
Thanks in advance

I don't. I have a # I'll run for all in. Take it, or no.

If I recall correctly, LTL FSC is calculated as a % of the "linehaul" rate. TL shipments are calculated at a per mile rate based off of the DOE weekly diesel prices. Hope this is helpful. Going off of past experience that I have been removed from for several years now. I believe this to be correct though. Someone please correct me if wrong though.

Ooida has a FSC calculator.

Mine as a percentage based on the price of fuel.
I got the table on some government website.Diesel Dave Thanks this. -
Only matters on contract freight. No one on spot market cares and it is an all for one rate. You can break it down I guess but it is no reason to as the broker would only move it for what it will move for regardless. Supply & demand at its best.

One company I leased for. Broke it down at $.50 per mile.
That was around 2011. Fuel was about $4.25.
FSC was talked about alot on this forum back then.
As mentioned above. Most loads are a flat rate. If it don't suit your dollar per mile. Don't haul it.Siinman Thanks this. -
As @Siinman said
Won’t matter in most cases if you’re running on your own
I’m leased and I give the company a % of line haul but I get all fsc and extras so the fsc being separated makes me more $
They also use some number they get each Monday for a per mile fsc rate
It’s been over $1 at times and this past week I think it was $0.80 per mile?
