Besides working weekends is there any other cons to hauling fuel?. I don’t really mind it as I work most weekends already doing otr. Most gas tanker drivers I talk to say they like it better than otr, and I’m pretty sure I will too. I plan to do this over the summer.

Long lines at the loading racks is con if you are not being compensated for it. Working outside in all sorts of weather sucks a little.

The only issue I had when hauling fuel was the pay scheme. Pay per load meant working 14 hours a day and not being reimbursed for your time at fuel terminals.

Oh yeah and that bomb on your back is a little nerve wracking. I got out of it after a 2 drivers died in my area in the same year. One blew up when offloading at a gas station and the other one blew up when hitting a bridge.

I suppose if you could haul to an airport at night, or some secluded tank somewhere, but dealing with idiots at stations that buy a pack of cigs, get out the door, and light one up( I read, a cigarette itself isn't hot enough to cause an explosion, it has to be a spark or flame from a lighter) and it's goodbye Nellie. I hauled one (1) load of gas my entire career, and said, no thanks. Van trailers and dump trucks don't blow up, generally. Used to be, one got a hefty incentive to do that. I don't think today, it pays much different than anything else.

I thought about the long lines at the racks now that you mention it.

I don’t have to sit at a dock and wait 8 hrs to be loaded/unloaded.
