I got PM service done at a local service center. In about 800 miles after service my truck engine completely shut off with codes reading fuel filter pressure low etc. on a 2006 cummins isx cm870. I looked at the invoice on what was replaced and noticed fuel filter was not touched. My question is, can a clogged fuel filter cause the fuel pump to fail and the leading fuel components. I'm looking to file a law suit as I got hit for $4000.00
Fuel filter not replaced at service caused major damage.

I used to mark mine with a scratch all , date and mileage when new.
I'm with Deere loss of power , rough idle , change it out and Roll.
Good Luck.PE_T Thanks this. -
Dirty fuel filter will not cause fuel pump failure on a cm870. Fuel pump failure causes it. It has,is and will be a very common failure on a cm870. Question of the day is why would a $400 pump that takes all of 30 minutes to change cost $4000? I am under charging.......

I got stuck in Evanston, WY at a pilot. Had to run parts from salt lake city for a cool 350 per run. Changed out the fuel shut off valve, then a silinoid plus fuel pump basicly changed out what the codes the ecu was sending out to the computer. When reading on this issue I find that the pump may have over worked itself when the fuel filter was clogged. Theres an article on over drive about how a dirty fuel filter may trash all your #### if not replaced accordingly. I guess what I'm getting it is they never replaced the filter thus causing all this to go down.

How many miles where on said dirty fuel filter? Do you have a fuel filter restriction gauge? Where did you by fuel last?

Not trying to be a dick but how do you know the filter was clogged? Did you actually cut it apart and inspect it? Or are you just assuming it was clogged because it never got changed?
Your story doesn't add up unfortunately. 800 miles is really nothing and you would have most likely noticed symptoms of fuel starvation (ie lack of power) long before the filter plugged up enough to stall the engine.
As was said earlier on, those pumps are prone to fail. At best you could hope for is to recover the cost of the filter they didn't change and the 5 minutes of labour it would have taken to change it.PE_T, magoo68, spsauerland and 7 others Thank this. -
