Just got my 97 freightliner with detroit engine ready for the road. Serviced it myself yesterday. I only notice 1 fuel filter, drivers side of engine.
Is there another 1 ? I have only used a davco. Was thinking there was a primary and secondary filter? When changing do I just fill filter with diesel and screw back on?

you should have a secondary one after the pump. it is where detroit typically puts the fuel temp sender as well.

Normally one hid up under the compressor and another back under the starter. Sometimes one is on the frame. LFP815, 33118 and LFP816, 33120 I thank. Some have a ball valve on one of the filter housings. Cut that off first and last. Stops all the fuel from going back to the tank. Some companies special ordered different stuff but two is normal. Good Luck with your new truck.

Oh and yes just fill them up with fuel. When I start them I run at 1500 RPM for a bit and not at the time of oil filter change. I used to just pore it in the center until JD started supplying an adapter with some of their filters. It is kind of like a funnel that screws into the center and all of the fuel has to go into outer holes, normal direction of flow. I decided there must be something to that or they would not supply them with the filters. Now I put my thumb in the center and fill them that way. Do it anyway you want. A 6 pack of injectors is only about $2,300.

I found both. 1 on outside frame rail between compressor And starter, the other inside frame rail under starter.
Thanks for the help. All hooked up ready to pull my first load tonight with new truck.

I often used howes instead of diesel in the filters that way there's no chance of water getting to a injector.. nowadays it's pump like crazy on the paccar engine
