    Had a hiring fair in Fresno. Filled app out spoke with people there, took drive test, talked a little more. Called me back yesterday for a second interview. I have never delivered gas/diesel. I have had 2 back surgeries and surgery recently on my knee. Would this be physically rough? I hauled used oil back in the day but that was before everything fell apart. Pay is ok 19/hr/days, 21/hr/nights and 1/hr raise after 90 days. They work 5/2, 5/2, 4/3 with set days off. Hiring 9-12 drivers in Fresno.
    Any input would be welcomed. Thanks

    The only strenuous work hauling fuel is lugging the hoses on and off the trailer. That's the only thing. The hoses are relatively light but of course pretty heavy when full of fuel. You won't be required to get on top of the trailer unless the check if compartments are empty. It's a great business. I hauled fuel for 6 yrs, and I would go back into it in a second. But I'm hauling chemicals at the moment. You will loading and unloading yourself, but that's a cinch once you know the ropes.
    As a pointer too, I would pick the night shift because the racks could be less busy and won't tie up your time as much.
    But YMMV
    good luck

    I've worked with a few companies like Mission and Coastal, but perhaps none of them operate in your area. And I started from scratch despite having a lot of experience in trucking beforehand.
    But the company will train you and all you do is get your hazmat and tanker endorsements. You may also have to get a TWIC card.
    Like I said though. If you know where the racks are in your part of the country, you can go over there and make a note of the trucks and go apply to everyone.
    Go for it. It's a good business to be in.

    Valenz34;
    You have to already have your hazmat and tanker, you can apply for a twic card. Getting your endorsements is not hard. Study the handbook, pay your fees and take the test. I don't know of any fuel haulers who hire new drivers. Get at least 2 years of experience and keep your record clean, than apply!

    Their training lasts 4-6 weeks since I have never hauled fuel and the pay is only $16.00/hr. I would be in financial trouble even for 4 weeks, it would be a $10.00/hr cut in pay. I had to say no thanks, it hurt to do so, but I have obligations.

    Actually, Coastal recruits right out of my school in Corpus Christi. They hire new guys but they don't pay a lot. I don't know if that's systemic or just in CC.

    I just remembered that Sun Coast hires out of school too.

    FDS is VERY Strict. You can get fired for the littlest mistake, or judgement, and from what I heard, alotof backstabbing over there. Don't trust anyone. I think all fuel companies in CA except the small ones limit your speed to 55.You could try Williams Tank Lines. Decent company. I worked for them 6 years. I think 23.00 hr no overtime. Cameras in trucks. Don't be fooled. Hauling fuel is very labor intensive on the knees, hands, back and shoulders. Your constantly getting in and out of the truck. Unless you stick to a very ridged routine, you can make very costly mistakes, and hauling fuels is dangerous. I have been doing it for 10 years now and I wouldn't haul anything else. But this is not for everbody. Good luck and Godspeed!
