Hi,
So, my dispatch said he will be ordering me a fuel card (not sure which one). Does anyone know how fuel cards work? I know you go to a station and pay with the card, but how does my dispatch see the information? Will he get access to how much fuel I purchased, or just how much I spent (like a regular credit card)? Do I need to do anything? How will it charge how I record IFTA? Any experience with fuel cards would be helpful
Thanks!

Just wondering why so curious about price and gallons purchased? Your not planning on being one of those idiots that try's to sell his fuel for cash to others while using a fuel card are you?
-
Just curious..no ill intentions here

If your a company driver for a mega carrier I am sure he gets all that info. Time, date, location will go to log department. Fuel department will get all of it. FM probably gets all the info as well. Not sure how IFTA is calculated. What are you currently doing to record IFTA?

The only helpful advise I can give is to make sure that your fuel stop time coordinates with when you turned the pumps off.

driver. all you gotta do. is drive the truck. and when it's empty. you pull into a truckstop. swipe your card and insert nozzle into fuel tank till she overflows. hang nozzle up and put your cap back on tank.
nothing else is of your concern. except making sure you log your fuel stop at the correct time.
the company does everything else.
if your on paper logs. you'll probably have to keep track of your miles in each state to report to the company. so THEY can file and pay the IFTA TAXES.
never had a qualcomm but i'm guessing that does the mileage on it's own.HORIZON2819 and milkman83 Thank this. -
We use FleetOne and we are NOT a mega carrier. I get an email each morning that tells me each card/driver/mileage/truck info and it shows where/gallons/price/time.
I can also log in on-line and see the info any time during the day. I watch new guys pretty hard as far as what the expected MPG is and what they are getting. And for any thing that looks out of place such as too many fuel stops or too many gallons. Have only had one try to get over on me and as you can guess he is gone.
But you do have to trip plan a bit with a Fuel Card, because not all truck stops take them. Have had a driver get caught in south Texas and had to use a credit card for fuel when he could not find a place that took FleetOne.
I also supply my drivers with a Bank Of America employee debit card. I can control the funds and how they can use you all off the internet. -
Doesn't dot give us like an hour window for our fuel stops anyway? I've always logged 15 minutes fback from the time stamp but it don't make much sense if dot gives me an hour window for the stamp to match up.Wanderingaimlessly Thanks this. -
What's the advantage of using a FuelCard over a creditcard? I get like 1.5points per dollar on a credit card, would Fuel card beat it?

Lol, yeah I'm sure you don't know do ya driver? Airborne amnesia is a #####.
