I always found family owned mom & pop one's. Could buy Michelin cheaper from them than the national account sometimes .
Great service.Rideandrepair and Swine hauler Thank this. -

Firestone’s would probably run you about 400/tire and seem to last as long as bridgestones. I’d put new steer shocks on at the same time. I was running good year but starting to get away from them.

So I had a little time to call for tires today.
The place that is closest to me that I have been to before for other things says that they have Chinese Steer tires for $315. They have Sumitomo for $355. And they have a 16 ply General Tire s360 for $365. Those prices include mounting.
I would be most interested in the General Tire, but that is an all position Tire. Should the front have regular Steer tires?
I also found another place that has General ra Tire for $427.51 but they want $27 each to mount them.
Another guy says he is Armstrong dealer for this whole area. I asked him who makes Armstrong and he said it's made in Thailand... $350 per tire including mounting and balancing.
I'm curious what you guys think about the prices/ tires and if I need to have regular Steer tires up front.
I still have more places to call...Rideandrepair and Swine hauler Thank this. -

After years of Michelins i switched to BFG ST heavy rated ; i'm at 2nd set and happy , first set lasted close to 200k, better than Michelins XZA3+ years ago, and are 150-200$ cheaper/set installed.

All position usually refers to steers. I’d go with the Generals, they are good Tires. I’ve had them on steers.Their Premium tire, Continental IMO the best Tires I ever had.Research the model of General tire they are. A lot of Brands have 2 different steers, one better for regional local work, they usually have a less # of treads, and all are the same width. And are cheaper than Premium highway steer tires, which usually have, more treads, and a decoupling groove on the edge. I’ve ran the cheaper “ local” “ Bump and Grind”tires once, actually lasted a long time, didn’t cup out any sooner than Premium hwy tires. They’re good, but not preferred.16 ply should have a higher load weight limit, good for heavy loads.

The 16 ply general would be a consideration.
The one thing I refuse to do is cheap out on steers so if you can get a set that offers that position plus many ply plus many good things, why not? It would be something of a experiment but the number of ply won me over. I don't recall having them on a big rig though. However we use them now and then. No worries.Rideandrepair, Dino soar and truckdriver31 Thank this. -
Don't see why people want to skimp on steer tires.
Rideandrepair and krupa530 Thank this.
