Hey guys- figured this would be the best place to ask. As a freight broker one of our jobs is to constantly call and check in to see where the driver is/ if they are loaded/ when they will be there etc.
This is not only annoying to me but I KNOW this bugs the hell out of the driver/ carrier dispatcher. Check calls are annoying for EVERYONE involved.
As an owner operator, how open are you guys to downloading some type of app or placing some type of free GPS locator on your truck so you never have to deal with annoying brokers wondering where you are? I know some are more worried about privacy than others...but just wanted some feedback on this.
Also while were at it...what are some things that brokers do that you guys HATE?
From a broker- tracking your truck?

Hahahahaha. Good luck with that. Constantly making check calls? If once a day isn't enough, buy your own trucks so you can control them.
Moronica, LoneRanger, Grumppy and 14 others Thank this. -
It will get there when it gets there. I will call if it is going to be late or more than 4 hours early. I could see this if it was a security related load. Not gonna happen on general freight. People go owner op so they do not have a nanny 24/7.
If you wanted to pay extra then some might think about it.Moronica, LoneRanger, CanadianVaquero and 7 others Thank this. -
A morning and afternoon check call should be plenty. Some shippers/brokers go into the Twilight Zone.
Coke loads from Coyote were the worst. 7 calls one morning between Lafayette, IN, and Indy. I turned the phone off.stevez57305 Thanks this. -
Doesn't TQL have a smartphone app that allows you to "check-call" with a press of a button? At any rate, I'd have to charge an extra fee for "additional monitoring", were I to encounter a load that required more than once-daily or loaded/empty check calls. Not opposed to doing it, and I'm tech-savvy enough to upload GPS locations on a schedule if someone really wished to be bombarded with tracking information, BUT at that point you will be paying for that as an additional service. Everything has its cost, including time.

So brokers want to get into the micromanagement game.
How would you feel about putting an app on your phone that allows a driver to find you when he's looking for his money? After all, what's good for the goose is good for the gander, correct?
That wouldn't be cool would it...some hot headed crazed driver shows up breathing down your neck, because of some discrepancy regarding his pay, standing over you and your family while during your family outing.
If you want me to trust you with money, you'd better learn to trust me with a load.jamespmack, Moronica, LoneRanger and 23 others Thank this. -
Thanks for the feedback guys. Trust me..brokers hate calling multiple times per day when our customers want updates constantly. I just figure its easier for everyone involved if there was some type of app/ tracking thing that would just show where you are all the time.
Hell I would pay the carrier a little extra for that any day of the week if it meant I didn't have to be on the phone for an extra hour or two per day making my check calls.
Anything else you guys hate? In my experience I think brokers lie to carriers all the time about detention $ and this is BS. I've seen guys in my office bill the customer for detention $ and then go to the carrier and say "hey man sorry I wasn't able to get any detention $ from them my bad" thats ridiculousTropsnart, brian991219 and bullhaulerswife Thank this. -

I've had some specialty loads where they tracked me through Macropoint on my phone. It's painless for me and keeps me running instead of making phone calls. I'd much rather do that than have a pesky broker on my phone.

As an owner op- would any of you guys be willing to place a free GPS unit (thats very small) in your rig that allows shippers/ brokers to track your truck AND offer you loads? I suppose maybe you guys would want to charge $5/$10/ whatever per load for the shipper/ broker to be able to "see" you. And then maybe you would get an email with lists of loads/ prices available in your area
I feel like this would be easier than having to "post" your truck in DAT 360 or Internet Truck Stop. Idk. just looking for feedback
