I've seen locks like this that were tampered with. The part that's mounted to the trailer door will have bolts that can be unscrewed. Can remove the bolt, open the door without touching the padlock. The one in the photo has rivit type bolts, so can't be tampered with.

If you've ever hauled a Mondelez cookie load, yes, that's right, cookies, and looked at the seals, you'd swear you're hauling The Ark of the Covenant. 4 bolt seals (1 per lock rod) and 3 to 4 cable seals. If the shipping clerk is being a real d1ck that day, there'll be 5 bolt seals and 6 cable seals.

In 2013 my trainer told me a story how thieves opened a hole on the trailer roof and pulled stuff out. Never once have I had anything stolen from any load I have carrieed.

Righty-tighty, right? Or is it left? Wait . . . hold on, she's got this! Well, maybe not!Roberts450 and Cattleman84 Thank this. -
I have a few trailers modified to prevent door removal, you have to actually cut the hinge to get it off and it can’t be replaced. Those trailers also have a secure hasp cam lock system so even if they get a door off. They can’t get the door open without destroying the door.
you can get the cam lock at the trailer dealer. -
Even bolt seals have been defeated. Trailer doors are not structural like container doors. We have a bunch of claims right now where everyone is convinced the shipments were pilfered before loading onto the ship. Cosmetics for a 'High End' chain store. You know there are problems when they cut the seal and the POD says 'Seal intact; expected 17 pallets and only 15 arrived'.
One of the first questions asked by the cargo insurance's lawyer was 'can they remove the doors?' and a quick trip outside to show him the difference and his camera went to work, even took pictures of an adjacent trailer with it's hinge pins and cotter pins holding them to show the difference.
99% of containerized freight is floor loaded. We do some copiers and they are shipped on a pallet, some apparel is on hangers.
The cosmetics were palletized and shrink wrapped and not completely filled with freight. They arrived with the shrink wrap torn and goods scattered around and short a pallet or two yet shipped under customs seal from Milan to the USA and the Italians are suing the steamship line, forwarder and draymanChinatown Thanks this. -
I thought this was interesting and it made me wonder how often this happens.

Sometimes the whole trailer is stolen. Years ago I worked for a major LTL company, a trailer fully loaded with Dell computers disappeared from one the Chicago service centers. Never recovered the trailer, or the contents.
