Does anyone know what you should torque crossmember bolts too? 5/8 fine thread. The truck is a 2000 Pete. The bolt holes are slotted from the factory if that makes any difference. Thanks.
Frame crossmember torque ratings?

BURP BURRRRRRRP with a good half inch air impact is what I torque to. If that doesn't help, refer to this chart:

Ya that seems to be the consensus. We pulled threads out of 2 of the grade 8 flange nuts yesterday. That was using a bigger gun but not hammering on it. I think we'll do another one with a torque wrench and see if it pulls threads at 200.lt deformed the nut into the slot too. I've never seen a grade 8 flange nut deform into the slot before.

Are you putting anti-seize or lubricant on the bolts and torquing to 200?

I would never put a torque wrench on a bolt like that. Just experience and using my gun all the time. Once my impact hammers only a couple of times with the nut not moving much is where I call it tight. You don't need to keep hammering and hammering it with the gun. That is how stuff stretches and deforms and finally snaps.

I had a quarter fender bolt snap off at the frame a few months ago. Ruined a couple of $500 Bridgestone trailer tires :-/ I wondered if someone stretched the bolt years ago overtorquing with an impact. But it might have just been from years of shaking and bouncing. Sort of a paperclip effect when you bend one back and forth until it breaks. So I replaced the bolt on both sides just in case.

I think it was a combination of things. I got three dozen non cad plated flanged frame lock nuts to replace the cad plated serrated flange ones. We used my 1/2 gun instead of the shop 3/4 gun. We thought we could just sneak up on the torque with the big gun but maybe not. So far everything is fine now. I was always taught to put new fasteners together dry if I was torquing. Or maybe just a tiny bit of lube. Like one or two drops.

5/8 bolts (15/16 head) i tq them to brrrrrrrrrrrp
1/2" impact stay on the trigger 3-4 seconds after they make contact watch for the socket to pretty much stop moving. never had one come loose/break/strip or any other problemSAR Thanks this. -
