what is the max weight of a forklift to go into a 53 dryvan? Had a 16,000 lbs fork with 2 rolls of paper weighing over 2100 each, needless to say it broke 5 crossmembers when it came down on the floor.

Bump......Good Question, I had the same thing happen after hauling a load of copper out of Douglass, Az and my trailer was paper spec'd. I'm not sure what that exactly entails, other then closer post and bows. My trailer came from Green Bay. I hauled out of Douglass before with a flatbed so I knew better, but I was desperate for a load so I took it anyway. After that I never let a big forklift in my wagon again. That's what flatbeds are for, and I could careless if the paper gets wet or not :)

I can't tell you how many times I've had fork lifts break through the floors on our old beat up pups. It finally got so bad the all the local Home Depots flatly refused to go into trailers that looked "iffy." I couldn't blame them a bit. We were NOT talking very heavy pallets here, just crappy equipment. . .

My best friends mom and dad owned a air cargo company. I can remember dropping a wheel or two thru the floor every now and then, especially on "Big Bertha" a big ole three stage hyster lift. Like you said, it was just because of old equipment. Don't get me wrong, my friends folks company had some nice equipment but on some accounts we just used the old junky trailers.

This has never happened to me, but I have some friends who also pull reefers, and they deliver to the ports in the gulf region and they say that the fork trucks will unload 2 pallets at a time. It takes a good size forklift for that, as the pallets weigh about 2500 lbs each. The floors in their trailers look horrible, but they keep going back for some reason.:biggrin_25513:
