Please read from the beginning as this issue has been happening for the last 2 weeks.
    Code: FMI 5 SPN 3361
    Lights: MIL and sometimes CEL
    Code: FMI 15 SPN 5246
Lights: CEL (on and off) , MIL and DEF lights blinking when CEL is on

1st week this started happening I only had SPN 3361 and from the looks of it the truck was still eating DEF. Sometimes it would stay on for 100-200 miles and then it would go away. It would come back after 60-100 miles drive and so on. I refilled DEF when it was empty on Friday and since then CEL and MIL light was on for about 300 miles, then CEL was gone and MIl stayed for another 100 miles and it was gone too.

Monday morning drove 60 miles and MIL and CEL came on together and it stayed for 200 miles. After refueling I noticed the SPN 5246 came on and blinking DEF reserve light. Now I had CEL MIL and DEF on and it was liek that for 200 miles. DEF flashes only when the CEL comes on. the CEL liht goes on and off , meaning during the drive, it will stay on for x amount of time (varies from 30 sec to few min) and then it disappers and only light on is MIL. Also seems truck did not take any DEF for the last 900 miles.

I read that the metering unit might be plugged and same goes for DEF dosing unit. I have an EPA10 1 box set up and my questions are as follows:

    1. Is the DEF dosing unit the one bolted in the back bottom of the SCR box ?
    2. Which wire is responsibe for signals to the DEF dosing unit
3.How to flush the Metering unit ?
4.Where else to look for the culprit of those lights ?
    5. Could it be a DEF in pump filter ?

I did change the DEF in pump filter around 50k miles ago.
I also just noticed my battery kill switch doesnt work.

Anybody ? Help... I need to be on the road for another 4-5 weeks

on the road for another 4-5 weeks ? you are not an owner-operator?
or bad def metering unit or bad harness
Diesel Exhaust Fluid Dosing Valve Circuit Failed Open

    SPN 3361/FMI 5

Description Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) Dosing Valve Circuit Failed Open
    Monitored Parameter DEF Dosing Valve
    Typical Enabling Conditions Always Enabled
    Monitor Sequence None
    Execution Frequency Always Enabled
    Typical Duration 2 Seconds
    Dash Lamps MIL, CEL
    Engine Reaction Derate 25%
    Verification Engine Idle (1 minute)
    Check as follows:

    1. Show/Hide Checkboxes
    2. Check for multiple codes.
      1. If SPN 4353/FMI 5 is active confirmed along with SPN 3361/FMI 5, repair the open circuit between pin 3 of the ACM 120-pin connector and the DEF metering unit dosing valve connector for pin 2.
      2. If only SPN 3361/FMI 5 is present, Go to step 2.
    3. Disconnect the DEF dosing valve wiring harness connector.
    4. Inspect the dosing valve connector terminals for spread or corroded pins.
      1. If the pins are spread or corroded, repair as necessary.
      2. If connector shows no signs of damage, Go to step 4.
    5. Turn the ignition ON (key ON, engine OFF).
    6. Measure the voltage between pin 2 on the harness side of the DEF dosing valve connector and ground.
    7. Is the voltage within 1 volt of battery voltage?
      1. Yes; Go to step 7.
      2. No; repair the wire between pin 2 on the harness side of the DEF dosing valve and pin 3 of the Aftertreatment Control Module (ACM) 120-pin connector.
    8. Measure resistance across pin 1 and pin 2 of the DEF dosing valve.
    9. Is the resistance between 13-16 ohms?
      1. Yes; repair the wire between pin 1 of the DEF dosing valve harness connector and pin 28 of the ACM 120-pin connector. Refer to section "Removal of the Diesel Exhaust Fluid Metering Unit" .
      2. No; replace the DEF metering unit.Refer to section "Installation of the Diesel Exhaust Fluid Metering Unit" .
    10. Perform a DEF Dosing Quantity Test to verify repair.
Regulatory Fault Ignored - Derate On

For 2011 models, this code sets when the vehicle has been driven for 30 miles while a code is present for the DEF tank level, DEF metering valve, DEF pump, NOx sensors, Blocked DEF line, DEF quality, NOx efficiency, SCR harness and/or SCR sensor.

For 2010 models, this code sets when the vehicle has been driven for 10 hours or 500 miles while a code is present for the DEF tank level, DEF metering valve, DEF pump, NOx sensors, Blocked DEF line, DEF quality, NOx efficiency, SCR harness and/or SCR sensor.

    SPN 5246/FMI 15

Description Regulatory Fault Ignored - Derate On.
Monitored Parameter SCR and DPF sensors
    Typical Enabling Conditions Always enabled
    Monitor Sequence None
    Execution Frequency Always enabled
    Typical Duration 2 seconds
    Dash Lamps CEL
    Engine Reaction 25 percent derate
    Verification
Parked SCR efficiency test for extended SCR faults

High idle regeneration for DPF and NOx faults

    Check as follows:

    1. Show/Hide Checkboxes
    2. Connect DiagnosticLink® . Go to step 2.
    3. Check for other emission-related fault codes. Are there any Selective Catalyst Reduction (SCR) or Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) related fault codes present?
      1. Yes; diagnose and repair the emission-related fault codes first. Verify repair.
      2. No; perform the Selective Catalyst Reduction (SCR) efficiency test or high idle regeneration. Use DiagnosticLink to clear the code.

I just gotta drive for 4-5 weeks before my long vacation.

Also I know what all the codes are and their Detroit write ups.

I was thinking of someone having a similar problem and how he identified it.

Which harness is responsible for the DEF, I know i have EPA 10 onebox and its the one thats air powered not electric. Also , does anyone know how to clean the Metering unit and do I have to unplug the def nozzle from back of the onebox

the harness starts from ACM(aftertreatment control module is located right behind of splash guard on driver side) and goes to onebox, def metering unit,....

You mean before batteries or right after where you fill in the DEF ?

Whats a possibility it was a bad DEF quality ? I refilled def with 6gallons from LOVES and it gets better. No CEL , MIL sometimes, im clueless.

I checked PNDB and I am getting power to all the fuses
