For every clutch job do the flywheel Drive pins need to be replaced?

Or do I measure them with the intermediate plate and see if the Gap is the same?

I'm asking because originally we were going to put the clutch on to a different engine and we put the drive pins that came with the clutch set on to that flywheel.

Can they be removed and put into the flywheel for this engine or are they a one time installation?

I would highly recommend replacing the dogs in a pot flywheel. And yes check the gaps to the intermediate plate and use the correct tool to install. If you dont, the plate will hang and the clutch will struggle to release. Dont forget new rattle springs if they dont come with the new clutch. They did not come with the last one I did.

I always make habit to hook up the clutch linkage and turn the output yoke in gear to ensure full release before buttoning things up.

For a one time deal you can get by with a small square and a good eye.
Some people really work hard replacing these. It is much easier if you loosen the allen set screws in the holes first. Some had one long one and others used two short ones in each hole.
Some only had four pins but always go back with six.
Lay the first clutch disc in the flywheel and drop the center plate in its place. Paint the plate at a pin location. Then check the clearance on both sides of each individual pin. Clamp the plate in a vice and file center plate as needed for clearance.
Then put it in the truck aligning the paint mark.

Most clutch shops will pull these dogs to resurface the flywheel so the stone clears. The shop we use their installation tool must be worn cuz their crooked every time. If you do get it turned ensure the surface where the clutch mounts is flat clear to the edge. Sometimes lazy po get a worn cup and surface is not flat up the corner where it's hard to get.

    That's a good point.

I had the Machine Shop that did the heads for my engine cut the flywheel.

When I get down to the garage I'll take a good look at it and make sure that it's cut right.

I'll have to contact them and see if they replaced the drive pins.
