Looking around on DAT, just curious if flat rates are really as bad as posted right now? Dump trailer season is winding down up here in the northeast, (I will not haul salt) and im really trying to not go back under my reefer because well I hate reefer. However it seems I can’t load a flat for much over $2.50 a mile, so it appears I may just have to deal with the reefer for the 3 or 4 months until spring. Did the flatbed bubble pop already? All my flat work has been for dedicated customers never run spot market with it.

Flatbed couldn't touch reefer through the entirety of this gold rush and Van has really taken off the past few weeks. Doesn't help that summer is over either. I can still get 7 or over to drive cross country west so I'm not complaining. It is getting awfully cold to keep doing onions back east though.

Also, most use truckstop for open deck, not DAT.

Open deck rates are in the tank. Its been that way most of the year except for a few weeks over summer.

I run open deck exclusively since I sold my end dump. Rates were good before July Fourth when they began to fall. Then after Memorial Day they fell some more. Now, they're pretty low and volume has dropped significantly. Personally, it looks like everything is almost back to what I'm used to seeing this time of year. Things always drop off after Summer ends in the areas I run most.

I can still get 7k to run the 81 up and back before the weekend or even to Denver and back. We are still way above pre pandemic rates even if they have gone down a bit. I'm also all spot market like you iirc.

Yeah its been tough most of the year. I am even running into the shippers we work with directly are shopping rates around. Lost a bunch of loads in the past month because of this. And we werent even making that much to be honest. but someone always wants to do it cheaper.

Spot market is what it is. The spot market. Open deck rates have not been what they should be since July. You can still make money though for sure.

I’ll try ITS, though it sounds like I’ll just have to deal with being back under the fridge this winter, unless by some miracle we get no snow, I get picky in the winter and will sit if I can’t make much anyways but still need something to do to keep me out of trouble
