Hey y’all! Need some quick tips and advice. Just got dispatched for a run through Atlanta Georgia. I’m a fairly new driver and have not had a run through there yet. Coming through North Ga now. Looks like I’ll be running 316 to 85 to 285. Drop and hook in West Atlanta and running NE from there. Kind of nervous going through Atlanta for my first time. Anywhere I should avoid? Is it as bad as I’ve heard on 85?

Unless you have business inside the bypass, trucks are not allowed on the interstates in the city, you must use 285.

Stick to 285 and you’ll be fine. Despite all the horror stories, Atlanta is actually not the worst place to drive, at least in my experience. Plenty of crazy motorists but that’s pretty much how it is everywhere nowadays.Rideandrepair, GYPSY65 and bumper Jack Thank this. -
Easy peasy Atalanta isn’t that bad.

It sucks traffic sucks and people drive like idiots. But that’s every big city. Take your time try to stay in a lane as much as you can, check recheck and then check your mirrors again when you change lanes. People are either gonna me going 45 mph or 160. Best of luck.

I live about 60 miles east of Atlanta, go through there a lot.
Best advice I can give you is slam the door on your hand.
It'll put you in the same frame of mind as the other Atlanta drivers.
Unless it's raining, then you need to slam something else in the door.
If you know what I mean.Rideandrepair, Hazmat Cat, Kyle G. and 1 other person Thank this. -
Not any worse as stated already than other major Metros
Now…. Stopping for the night is a different story
If you ever do and end up at the Petro on x12 I think?
Stay inside the fence
A friend and I walked across the street to eat at some janky place. Bad food
Walking back some car rolls up wanting to know if I am in need of drugs or women
Another friend stopped a different time and walked across the street to a business, there was a guy laying on the sidewalk by the entrance he had to walk around. The guy had just been shot. Was still alive but stillRideandrepair, Speed_Drums, Kyle G. and 2 others Thank this. -
Your best bet when running through any big city is to park the night before as close to the city without going in and then getting up at 0400 and breeze through.
316 and 85 is one of the worst places to be at rush hour in Atlanta.
Good luck.
Patience is a virtue and a requirement.Rideandrepair, Speed_Drums, Kyle G. and 1 other person Thank this. -
Atlanta is no worse than any other big city. Get off the phone, know where your going, be about your business, and don’t look scared.

I go through there at least once a week. Sounds like the areas you are traveling through are mostly ok. Most of the construction that's going on right now is over on the NE and E side of 285, so u may hit some there. If you ever have to go down 75south towards McDonough then beware, lots of construction north and southbound going that way. Otherwise, Atlanta is not that bad at all.. Also when in EATL avoid the Pilot on Bouldercrest Dr.. it's always a mess!!
