First Omnitracs,Now PeopleNet Is Having ELD Issues

I've been using BigRoad for 5 years. Started with free version then transitioned to the AOBRD version for 2 years, now full ELD since AOBRD was phased out.

I haven't had any issues during the whole time I've been using their platform. Seamless and easy plug and use.

Yet, I hear and read about these HUGE companies like Qualcomm & PeopleNet failing left and right. What gives?

I have a buddy who's company just transitioned from RM to PN. He told me he's experiencing the same issues as report in that CDL story.

Of course, he wasn't complaining too much about being on paperlogs for 8 days straight LOL

 

If a ELD crash is going to put you out or business you need more to learn. ELD is out of commission then just run on paper until they fix it. If it’s the whole ELD company then DOT will know and will adjust accordingly. No need to stop operations.

 

Probably sue the ELD company for losses. I don’t see a big company going offline for more than 3-4 days though. You’d think the DOT will be on their ### if they go offline for more than a week. Probably allow a temporary exception.

 

FMCSA will grant an extension. That 8 day is without an extension. The extension is even listed in the regs that create the 8 day regulation.
But Omnitracks was down 2-3 weeks, and this sounds like it will take just as long, if not longer.

 

Wait until people start hacking these things.

They aren't stable now, can't wait until someone starts looking for cracks in the system.

 

I see the 'not functiining as an ELD' msg for the first 10 minutes after it boots up every morning. Plus I have to start my truck (not just key on, but start it) for it to boot properly...but this started after my company was forcibly merged with Wylie in October...so I blame Wylie for it not Peoplenet.
