I'm having a (possibly) unusual problem. Each morning when I start driving(I'm a daily driver) after about 5-10 minutes in, my ring and pinky finger on my left hand will go numb for about 10 minutes. Then off and on during the day. I only notice this when in the truck, not in my personal vehicle. Has anybody else ever had anything like this, or does anybody have an idea as to what it might be? Haven't been there long enough yet to get insurance started

I get that from time to time myself. Sometimes it get's pretty bad. It can be a couple things. It can be the beginning of carpal tunnel syndrome. Holding a steering wheel and gear shifter for many hours a day is no different than typing on a keyboard.
Another explanation may be a circulation issue. Due to the sedative nature of truck driving your body get's acclimated to inactivity. This is what was my problem. I never had it completely diagnosed due to lack of insurance, but a doctor told me to just be more active. "Get the blood flowing". Really. Go for a walk. Add some calisthenics to your daily routine. I would walk for 30 minutes a day.
I'm sure you'll find it helps. If the condition continues or gets worse as time goes on I would see a doc.Dave75 and bullhaulerswife Thank this. -
Diabetes, pending stroke or leprosy ... I'm not a doctor, but I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express once.

I had the very same thing happen to me, but when I was riding my motorcycle. I had Carpal Tunnel Syndrome on both hands.
A simple test by your primary doctor will help along in the diagnostics. He/she will then send you to another doctor (specialist) that will do further testing. When you get your health benefits, get tested right away. There can and will be long term nerve damage that will occur.
Let us know how you make out with this. -
I'm with Gizmo on that one. Could be something simple, but like Gizmo said you can get nerve damage too.
You are also a new driver and maybe white knuckling the wheel! Relax and drive comfortable. I would also try not to wrap your fingers around the wheel. Drive more with your palms.

The cool thing about the correction for carpal tunnel now is that its laser, and you can return to work immediately after. No incisions to care for.
I'm in agreement, its a nerve blockage somewhere. I'd get it looked at as soon as your insurance kicks in. But don't tell them that its been going on for a while. They will deem it pre-existing. -
Wait a week or so after you get your insurance. Like bullhauler said then it won't be pre existing. Just started happening after you had to sign all those insurance papers!

I was cut open, albeit a very tiny cut, and I'd say that after both hands were done, I was back to work in one month. But I was turning wrenches back then too.
And yes, NEVER say you had this for a while. The insurance can deny the claim as pre-existing as mentioned.bullhaulerswife Thanks this. -
Yup, no more incisions. It's pretty cool. Much better than it used to be.
