I run a couple of straight trucks in the Carolinas. I was looking for some freight on various sites (loadboards) and little came from it specifically looking for straight truck. I was thinking of also looking at LTL loads that might fit in my trucks. Any advice?

Maybe look at expedited freight boards, generally the loads are smaller.

Not impossible to do but difficult to find good steady sources for that on loadboards. Get in touch with BigBadBill.

Only real load board is Sylectus but without freight to put on that you are going to have a tough time getting traction with the people posting. And it's not cheap.

If you have 10+ units you need to look at getting on with the major 3PL's. But you also need tracking and many want 24/7 dispatch.

Tough business to play in if you are not large enough to get with the majors. 10 units is the magic number and 25 S/T's and Tractor combo opens up some pretty big doors. Avoid cargo vans and sprinters. Most of the companies have more of those than they need and the rates are garbage.

I have a 22 foot straight truck and I live in Atlanta. I have my own authority and I would like info on load boards and freight brokers. Who is paying? I want to stay busy. I hear Internet truckstop and get loaded is best if you have your own authority. Please help.... I want to make the right moves...

Not necessarily the best. One loadboard is about as good as another. For a straight truck though... ..really I have no idea how one would even begin to keep a straight loaded off loadboards. You can do it with a semi and make a good living but freight for a straight is, well, it's kind of specialized. You need contacts in the expedited industry to get loaded consistently with a straight. You can find them off open load boards, but it's really like finding a needle in a haystack. Which is not a problem for a semi truck cause it's just a matter of picking off general freight truck loads and making those random contacts. With a straight I would imagine you'll be starving to death hauling a bunch of cheap truck load partials, unless you're a negotiating animal and really good. Not going to say it is impossible but the deck is stacked against you. I wouldn't want to try it.

Very limited ST freight on load boards. Issue I would have putting my freight on the boards is that the service failure rate with the carriers that run off boards is so high that I wouldn't want to chance losing a customer over a bad carrier.

Best bet is to get relationships with carriers that will load you. That will take time but with effort you can work with a couple carriers that should be able to keep you moving if you are smart and stay in the good lanes.

We have several ST owner ops that we work with and it works well for us.

I am currently looking for ST loads. Do you have any recommendations? I'm not having any luck with the load boards.

Could it possibly be the way that you're searching on load boards. Was talking to a new guy a few weeks back that was having the same problem with his hotshot. I spent a little time with him on the phone showing him different ways of searching. It really helped him.

Because you're really looking for partials/LTL , try searching all trailer types. I'm sure you'll see more that way than if you're just selecting , expedited, cargo vans etc. I've even found good paying partials for our open hotshot trailers posted under dry Van freight. You might find pieces listed under dry Van, flatbed, step deck, HS that'll also fit on your ST.

Just some ideas, hope it helps.
