And honestly, there's nothing wrong with driving a daycab for a private fleet. If you land a job with a private fleet, you're lucky because they are one of the most sought after jobs in the industry. They pay well and have a good quality of life with them. Most private fleets pay in the neighborhood of $15-$28/hr with benefits.
By the way, I would count UPS and FedEx Freight as private fleets, as long as you're not a contractor. YRC, ABF, Holland, and OD are also private fleets, since they haul their own product.

Those rankings are based on company revenue, not pay packages. Pepsi is one of the lower paying private fleets in the industry.
If you look at the top 100 for hire, Swift is in the top 5. -

They may have either shuttle or delivery drivers in your area.
The business is very established, like 200 year old, $1.6B in sales, we had drivers, who worked for 15-20 years, new equipment. They are distributors(TL, LTL). -

This post got me thinking. Take Wal-Mart for instance, Wal-Mart doesn't manufacture a single item that I can think of. They do sell thousands of products and many have their own private label (I think it Great Value) but even those items are manufactured by a 3 rd party, obviously.
As mentioned Tyson processes chicken and then sells it. They use their own fleet as well as 3rd party transportation. I've seen car carriers belonging to Toyota delivering Toyotas. But not any other manufacturer doing this.
Yellow freight and the others including UPS and Fed-Ex aren't delivering their product, they're delivering customers products that are using them to do so. Pepsi and Coke do deliver their own product which they manufacture. Same with Texaco Arco Chevron etc. And we've all seen tire manufacturers, window manufacturers, snow mobiles etc. Can't forget Farmer Bros coffee.bigkev1115 Thanks this. -
