I signed up for the federal government financial aid FAFSA and saw some technical schools are among the listed schools. Does this mean I can use the funds I'm given to enroll for the cdl course? I always thought financial aid is for degree courses only and not technical or certification? I guess rules changed?

I would believe so. TDDS is a diesel/trucking school here in Ohiois listed as a technical school and they have a FAFSA number for students to use on FAFSA application. Check with FAFSA to be sure.

The tech school I spoke with can't stop calling me as if they are excited to get the fafsa funds by having me attend their school. Lol. I already told them I signed up for fafsa and included their school as one of the 8 schools I listed as potential schools.

I have been seeking financial aid for CDL school also. I have learned that CDL schools do not qualify for federally funded financial aid in the form of Pell Grants or student loans. The reason is that the course is too short to qualify. 160 - 320 hrs. You may be eligible for a workforce investment act (WIA) grant which is designated for short vocational programs such as driver training.

I went through a financial aid course. 600 hours ended up being 750. Huge school not enough instructors or trucks one of the reasons it stretched. So it equaled out to 6 months. No pell grants. School gets everything. I graduated In May

You can get funding for any school that offers CDL training as long as the school is ACCREDITED. I got my CDL from a college and even earned college credits.

OK so I visited the tech school that FAFSA had listed on their website, I'm surprised the length to finish the CDL A course is 24 weeks (6 months) and the cost is $10,000. Not sure yet if I am getting screwed here considering it takes a long time to finish so I can understand why it's $10,000 but is this really necessary? I thought it was always 3 weeks? This is the ATT or advanced tractor trailer program so it's not just any CDL A program. It is a PTDI (professional truck driver institute) certified course. I don't know what its importance is. I saw that they have all types of trucks on their lot so I think the course is serious. While FAFSA gives only about $5,000 in free money (if I qualify), the rest do I get a loan for it or pay out of pocket?
Should I just get my CDL Permit and get trained at one of those training centers that you pay $180 a day to learn what I need faster? Not sure about a 6 month course at all. I may be moving to the oilfields soon. -
well the school is listed in the FAFSA website so it must be accredited and legit.
