My company has peoplenet, but their system was messed up last night/ this morning. So, I had to fill out a paper log for today, but don't have to turn it in until tomorrow since today isn't over yet.

It's stupid that my company even requires me to log since I stay inside of 100 air miles, and never work over 12 hours a day, but what are you gonna do?

Anyways, bottom line is that my log looks like crap lol. The first hour is driving, and the last hour is driving, but I have 11 stops in a 6 hour period in between, so it's a lot of 15 minutes on line 3, then 15 minutes on line 4, etc. everything is jumbled together and I can't write that small.

Is there a simpler way of doing this?

Are you making deliveries in the same city?

Nope, different cities. For instance, I have Chesterton, IN, then Michigan City, IN, and then La Porte, IN for 3 of my stops. All are very close to each other, but different zip codes :/.

I don't know if it will help you to clean it up, not sure how many stops total you're dealing with, but what you can do is show driving from your terminal to first stop, and if you have multiple stops in the same city, you stay on duty not driving while in that city, and mark it as "deliveries". Then you show drive time to the next city, if multiple stops there, on duty not driving while in that city, "deliveries", and so on. As long as you are in the same city for multiple stops, you can show that time as on duty. Make sense?

    Yes there is...

If you only run within a 100 mile radius..
Show your pre trip on your paper log then run on duty not driving the rest of your day and at the end of your shift show your post trip.... this is 100% legal

I needed to double check, and I just got off the phone with the local field office of the FMCSA. The agent referred me to 395.8, look at the "Guidance Q&A".

    This.

You're basically using the log book as a time clock. Go from line 1 down to line 4 to show your start time, then from line 4 back to line 1 to show your end time. Total up the hours, and include the required info (name, date, etc...) as well as any other info the company wants, and you're done.

Question 19: Regulatory guidance issued by the Office of Motor Carriers states that a driver’s record-of-duty-status (RODS) may be used as the 100 air-mile radius time record “provided the form contains the mandatory information.” Is this “mandatory information” that required of a normal RODS under section 395.8(d) or that of the 100 air-mile radius exemption under section 395.1(e)(5)?

Guidance: The “mandatory information” referred to is the time records specified by §395.1(e)(5) which must show: (1) the time the driver reports for duty each day; (2) the total number of hours the driver is on duty each day; (3) the time the driver is released from duty each day; and (4) the total time for the preceding 7 days in accordance with §395.8(j)(2) for drivers used for the first time or intermittently.

Using the RODS to comply with §395.1(e)(5) is not prohibited as long as the RODS contains driver identification, the date, the time the driver began work, the time the driver ended work, and the total hours on duty.

No requirement outlined to "show" pre-trip.

Don't believe me; How does pre-trip differentiate between regular on-duty your fill you whole day out with?
