few questions since most is older info.
Currently work FedEx Ground team with my brother. 4 day on 3 off set run 70k
Evansville Indiana fedex freight was running ad for city driver and road driver which in assuming is line haul. I dropped in app and they callled set me up next wed for interview.
She said 50 1/2 cents mile to start and I swore she said 22$ hr.
My question is smaller city they lay off a lot? And she said they have spot open for line haul which I’m assuming doubles. How muck dock time am I looking at?
I would like to keep same or more money since I’ll have to drive 45 miles to work a day. Is it possible first year?

As for dock time, once again, it depends. You might be in a position where you drive 90 miles and spend 7 hours a night on the dock pretty much all the time. Or you might be in that position in theory, but you're constantly being called to run to other yards and run cleanup for all the freight they need to move, and you'll rarely plant your butt on a forklift. There's no concrete answer here. You pay your money and take your chances.

Fedex does a bit too much micromanaging for my comfort, but the money is certainly there.

I have with fedex going 14 years, 20 door terminal small, 10 city drivers 5 line haul, no layoffs starting pay 22.oo high pay 25.88, over time after every eight. Never been microed. Great job.

As @Gearjammin' Penguin said, it all depends on the terminal and how much work you're willing to do (keeping in mind the conditions of working on an Indiana dock in the middle of winter).
My terminal just hired 2 guys from FedEx Freight, and we have several others including guys who worked for American Freightways when they were bought out by FxF. I don't know the exact reason they all left to come to DFL, but the 2 recent ones were sick of short linehaul runs out and back with many hours of dock work in the middle. They were working out of a small barn and that was the kind of runs they had to choose from.
When you interview, be sure to ask how much time you'll be driving a forklift vs. driving a truck. These guys were on forklifts more time than they were rolling down the road. Also, Dayton Freight has an Evansville terminal. You might want to check if there are any openings there (no dock work).jtaran06 Thanks this. -
I was with FXF for 10 years and 2 years with Watkins before FedEx bought them. Line haul at a small terminal means that you will be low man on the totem pole. That means a short shuttle to the hub and dock work at the hub until your loads are ready to go back home. City work is great but it is hard work, definitely not a steering wheel holding position. PAy is excellent benefits are on the lower end of the good side.
Do not go into management as that was the end of my long career there and be ready for mega corporation politics. If you keep your head down and do what is asked it is a really good job.Mooseontheloose, jtaran06, Bob Dobalina and 1 other person Thank this. -

And on a side note city work is not hard, if you've done any work in your life it's child's play.lagbrosdetmi, tony97905 and jtaran06 Thank this. -
Bob Dobalina Thanks this.
