First off, I know that when ever some one has something good to say about a company you think "recruiter" I'm not.
I have been laid off for more than a year and got my CDL.
I have been working for Fastenal out of Jessup PA for about a month and a half. What a great job. The people are great to work with. They are more like a delivery company than a trucking company. They haul their product to their stores with their equipment. You have to bust your balls a little when delivering on their routes but all in all it is all good.
I am very happy I took a job with them. Feels great to be working again, Very happy with my career choice.
I don't post much but I would like to thank all the people here for all the great information they share, It really is very helpful for a new driver.

    C & C and MUSTANGGT Thank this.

It sounds like you did okay for yourself. Other than food service companies, private carrier jobs are becoming a rarity as more and more companies have disbanded their fleets and turned their hauling over to common carriers.

The advantage of your situation is that they want you back as soon as possible when you complete your deliveries.

I'm considering Fastenal as an employer when I get done with school. I have a couple of questions, and if you can't answer them that is ok because I know some companies don't like this information public:
    1. How's the pay? Mileage? Hourly? Piece/case? Combination of both?
    2. What kind of benefits are available and how much do they cost?
    3. This is a very broad question, but what is a typical day like for you?

As a current Fastenal employee I would say stay away from them. Expect you to work 14 hour days when I can run my route and be back in 12 hours with no problem. I don't get paid by the hour but by the stop. 5 dollar a stop x 10 stops a night.

I applied to them.. I asked them a couple of questions at the interview. Like does the truck die after a few minutes of idling? How does the truck take care of the driver on break? They never got back to me. That was a year ago. They answered my questions and never said a word.

No truck idling allowed. You run your route as you see fit. If you are veteran avoid them at all cost. Im a sprinter driver with them and my salary is 1700 plus my mileage and stop pay not very good. I bring home anywhere from 1300-1400 every two weeks.
