Hello everyone and thnx for reading my post. My 98 International had a perfectly working fan till I took it to the shop to fix some air leaks and cab temperature control. My fan was the best thing on this truck. Kicked on automatically and also worked great with the fan override. When I left the shop I parked it, next morning made my way up the cajon pass in san bernardino. Noticed my fan not kicking on about half way up and she got a lil hot. I have checked the obvious wires around fan and A/C, switch panel in cab, fuses..... I'm sure the shop messed with something but I can't figure it out. Any help bypassing the electrical to start narrowing this down would be greeeat.. thnx

could be the fan sensor, disconnect it (with engine turned off) and then start engine and if fan works then you know the sensor is the problem.

There is no fan sensor on Series 60. Fan is ECM controlled.

To be sure use DDDL, they may damage A/C wire to ECM and when you turn A/c on Fan wont working, and actuates with over 95 dgr C coolant temperature with engine control unit.

Does the ecm control a air solenoid that would turn the fan on and off? If it does then he could disconnect the wire going to the solenoid and the fan would stay on if it an air powered fan clutch. I have done this many times, just have to remember to plug it back in otherwise the fan will stay on 100%.

There are fitting going into the fan area. A few wires going into a fitting which I assume a solenoid but no quick disconnects. I will prob cut and splice later until I can get some more feedback. Thnx fellas keep it coming

Ok.. I guess won't need a pic after this... there is a quick wire disconnect , hooked up some aligator clips n wire to the solenoid thing and the alternator..... I can get the fan clutch to move frwd and aft.... but the fan doesn't engage and doesn't roar like it usually does. . Hooked it up to a/c switch went down the road. Made it over albaq.. nm though so I'm home free for now. Does this mean my fan clutch is gone???? Maybe doesn't engage fully??? Thnx fellas

From what you are telling us it would lead me to believe that you fan clutch is gone. I could be wrong but I believe that you would need to replace the fan clutch.

Did you try taking the airline to the fan off. That way you know it shouldnt have any air to it, if it doesnt engage it is the clutch itself. I just had the same problem with mine a few weeks ago. Mine engaged and I could smell it burning the clutch, then it would not disengage. Stayed like that for the rest of the day, the next morning I could smell the clutch material burning again, then the fan shut off and would not engage again. The clutch material was shot when i took it apart. The sensor inside was melted, but that might have been from the heat when it was malfunctioning. Put a new one on and its good not. I will say if you can get a rebuild kit or a reman one, that would be your best bet. They only had a new one in my area and it was 800 bucks.
