2001 international 9200. Fan is running continually. The solenoid it seems to operate as it should but won’t release the clutch all the way. There are 3 lines.

    1 is a feed line
    1 is to the clutch
The last seems open to atmosphere?

I can’t blow air to the open one AND see where it’s

coming out? I am all alone at the shop and no one around.

    many ideas?

I’m also losing air pressure quick until I flip the fan override to the “on” position. Then no more air loss.

it only leaks air while running so I can’t hear where.

I guess my question is what dose the 3 rd hose do? I believe it is orange?

Is it possible the solenoid is leaking some pressure to the clutch and causing it to engage partially and leak at the hub? Then when I energize with the switch it doesn’t leak because it’s full air pressure?

Most air operated fan clutches control solenoid operate the same way.

It has a constant air supply (after 60-70 psi secondary air pressure).

It has a common (Control) port that runs to control the fan.

It has a vent or vent line, to dump the air when deactivated.

Power to activate the solenoid supplies air to the fan clutch to release it. (Fan spins free)

Remove the power, releases the air from the fan clutch. Locking the fan clutch.

So with the key off, you should be able to supply air through the vent and release the fan clutch (sometimes there’s a check valve that restricts this)

You can also supply 12v power and ground to the solenoid ( with over 70psi truck air) and get the fan to release. If there’s a leak on the fan control air line or the clutch, you should be able find it this way with the engine off.

Sounds like fan hub may need a rebuild kit

Hub was new last year. I pressure it with shop air and it works as it should. I don’t hear any leaks like I did when the last hub went out.

When the truck starts there is pressure to the fan hub but it’s like it’s not enough to fully disengage the clutch.

Maybe the hubs leaking real bad. Try and let air build up in tanks with switch engaged. Then turn switch off. Shut it down, then turn key on, check for leak from fan hub.

When you say you put pressure to it was that pre-solenoid or after the solenoid?
It’s possible the solenoid isn’t opening all the way.

    Thanks guys.

conclusion is that the fan hub doesn’t release and leaks with truck air. It dose release and doesn’t leak with shop air.

I figured this out by artificially energizing the solenoid while the truck was off.

the hub is 14 months old. Kit master. 24 months warranty they say but I’m skeptical. Won’t be here till Friday.
