Hey,
Hubby will probably be starting an OTR position soon with a company that will allow myself and our 6yo to ride also.... since there are only two seatbelts, are there any safety harnesses or other items available to make bunk riding more safe? I cannot lay down under the net all day, but don't choose to be unrestrained either. Thanks.

Better figure out something.
Unrestrained children are killed in big trucks because they're not restrained.
I remember a baby that was killed when the truck rolled over at I-65, Exit 104, in Tennessee. The mother and father weren't hurt, but the baby was thrown from the truck and killed.FlaSwampRat Thanks this. -
She would definitely be the one in the passenger seat with a seat belt....
Chinatown Thanks this. -
Not to rain on your parade but it is stupid to do that. You are putting yourself and kid at risk in one of the most dangerous vehicles on the road in one of the most dangerous jobs in the country.
Kids don't sit still for long, to expect the kid to get used to being in a car seat in a rough riding truck for three or four hours at a time is ... cruelmitrucker, Crude Truckin', InTooDeep and 8 others Thank this. -
Its's stupid as Ridgeline stated.
Bunks are not that well constructed. The harness is a 50/50 shot even then it's bad.
You are not putting that kid into 11 hours stuffed into a seat or carseat. If you horse that rig out of the way of someone quick enough kid is going to get slammed into any number of corners inside that cab. Some bridges are bad ones. Essentially slam forward onto it with the tractor and then get whipped by the trailer. In that case the child will go through the dash and glass up front.
I can go on and on but another problem is ELD. Customers and shippers are not baby sitters. If child needs potty, sorry. Hope you have a camp toilet in there...
Finally but not least we are going into winter. There are times in the north where temps with wind is cold enough to kill your child by breathing in a short time. 20 minutes or so. Or hurt same internally through the breathing system and or frostbite etc. They simply do not have the wherewithal physically to withstand what you are about to roll into from time to time.
Trucking and children do not mix. Its as simple as that.EuropeanTrucker and Crude Truckin' Thank this. -
I have seen a Prime guy that changed the bunk netting around a bit so it was more like those baby containment play pins.
Short of adding in a extra jump seat, I don't see a real way to truly secure another person in. -
Alot more are killed in car accidents than trucks

I have to wonder what the law is on the matter?
I am betting for every law there is at least one that will contradict it. lol
I am trying to remember when I first started seeing kids riding in trucks, I think it must have been somewhere around 61 or 2 when I started riding with my grandad, I can't remember being tied in, but may have been. I do know none of my kids were ever restrained in one, it actually bothered me more when I was sleeping, knowing they could get out of the truck, with a possibility that they didn't wake me.FlaSwampRat, MrsWJAA and Hulld Thank this.
