Feeling pretty bummed out right now, I could have made it to the driving part but nope. I tested out in Fontana, CA I passed the pre-trip, air brake, straight back and offset but failed the parallel (Passenger side parallel). What failed me was that I didn't control the clutch and that I went past the last set of cones 3 times because the area where I was testing at has a slight incline, which caused the truck to roll back when I shifted it to first gear. :( But anyways I got the truck in on my last attempt but ended up not getting through the driving because passing the last set of cones is 10 whole points and your only allowed to lose 12 total haha. Anyways i just wanted to know where are the reference points on the first initial hard left to bring the trailer in? There's only 4 sets of cones (2 in front and 2 in back). I been getting told a few different things, like turn hard left till your drive tires reach the middle landing gear, but others say only turn the wheel half way where was others say turn only 1 turn left. Thanks for the advice!

Lots of failed tests in California, Illinois, New Jersey.
It's as if those states have a quota to meet.

Buy a toy. Set up a table top testing spot manuver toy into that spot using just your finger on the steer axle.

Once you understand via the toy how it behaves every time and if the markers are to scale with the size of your toy, usually around 1/45 or so...) you will begin to learn what you can expect in your mirrors.

I watched a few videos and i learned what i did wrong, I noticed I had too much space on my passenger side, which means I didn't hold my initial left turn long enough, I only made half a steering wheel turn. Most videos are cranking it 1 full turn till the drive tires meet the middle landing gear.

it's true, 99% of the students at my school failed the first time, even the really good ones with experience and had to renew their CDL also failed. But your right about quota, its all about the $$$$

Those steering wheels are made to be cranked. Once you get your license and are confronted with really tight places, you will be not only cranking that wheel stop to stop but you will be gently at times forcing the tractor beyond normal limits of steering.

Also, there could be a difference in criteria.
Before I got my CDL, instructor at a local truck driving school in Kansas City MO told me I was lucky to live on the Kansas side of Kansas City (Kansas City KS) because of the way the examiners were/the test was set up, it seemed it was easier to get CDL in Kansas than Missouri, the state line goes right through the middle of Kansas City metro area.

Different schools use reference points differently, what one instructor may tell you is the right spot to start turning the wheel at, the next instructor from the same school may pinpoint it to a spot a few inches back/left/right and instruct you how to turn the wheel accordingly, both approaches end up being right while their set ups slightly differ, don't let different approaches confuse you.

If 99 percent of the students are failing, I’d question the techniques the school is teaching. Also, if it’s all about the money everyone would be passing so more cattle can come through the revolving doors. :)

On the retry definitely use your pull ups and get outs, even extra ones. They cost less than cones. Good luck.
