Well my husband, a recent graduate, failed a pre-hire drug screening for Swift. They said he had deluted specimen. It was weird because, he went to orientation took the 3 day orientation and told him that as soon as they got his results they would call him to go to work. Well, almost 2 weeks later they called saying that he failed because the specimen was deluted. Usually if you fail, you can go back as soon as you find out to take another test. but, it had been almost 2 weeks since the first test. I'm pretty sure it went on his DAC report (but on that I'm not too sure). They said they marked it down as failed.
My question is will he get another company like CRST to hire him, or did we get a big hole (financially) for him not to be able to use his CDL lisence as a trucker?

Almost every trucking company application I have looked at has a question that asks something like... Have you ever refused or failed a drug test.
Im a newbie but sounds like bad news. Why was his sample dilluted ? And if he was dirty then sorry...but too bad he shouldnt be driving anyway. If he couldnt even pass a pre hire why would anyone want to hire him ? -
You can drink too much liquid and come back diluted.. it is best only to drink 20oz of water or other liquids or less in a 90min period.. 40oz in a 3hr period.. the reason is..a lot of drug users try to dilute to try to pass a drug screen..I think it even states it in the guide lines about how much water you can have ..if you can not produce enough urine ..they allow 3hrs ..and will let you have up to 40oz of water in that time frame.. I could be off a little .. I'm always careful because I had a collection site question why my urine was so clear one time.. I drink a lot of coffee.. 3 or 4 pots a day lol..

red-eye is right. i took my drug test last monday for MILLIS. i went with 3 others that was in my class. everyones had come back the next day but mine and the instructor called and said mine was the only one that hadn't come back and if there was anything i needed to tell him. i don't drink or do anything other than a tylenol once in a blue moon. he said it could come back diluted because i drink so much water. it finally come back and everything was well.

The test should be redone when a neg dilute is found.
Also pre hire tests should not be reported to DAC as he never worked for the company. -
Only positve test is a failure. A diluted test means just that not enough to test. I drink way too much coffee and test came
back diluted. Went back next day without any coffee tested neg. You only fail a test if you get a call from the MRO. -
For specimens that are simply dilute. DOT rules (49 CFR Part 40.197) allow the employer to make a decision to re-collect these donors one time under the following circumstances:
There is a policy statement in place before the fact that allows the practice.
All employees are treated equally.
The re-collections are not observed re-collections.
Only one re-collection is allowed, and the result of the second collection is the result of record, even if it is another negative, dilute.
The decision to re-collect may vary by reason for test. In other words, an employer may decide to re-collect all pre-employment dilute negatives, but not random dilutes, or vice versa. -
I have avg over 36 cups a day for many; many years and have never had a problem...

It doesn't show as a chemical diluting agent. It just waters the urine down so much, it leaves nothing to test

This is from the Federal Regiser. It is from 2004 but might put you on some track to finding an answer. Powder Joints post seems to reflect much of what I read in the Register.
