Now, I’m pretty sure this would be considered excessive after running 65 to 70 20k load, pretty flat terrain. Opinions?

oil pressure is around 25 idle and 42 running around 1500-1700 rpm. What’s your thoughts?

thats nothing compared to a buddies 30 thousand dollar cat rebuild from cat last year. I even pulled his oil fill and dipstick and it was chuggin worse than yours. He went out of his mind. anyhow he called cat and they told him its gonna be that way till the rings set or some bs. He ran it hard for next 2 weeks and i think by the 3rd week, there was zero blow by. Well not zero, but very minimal. Your always gonna have some. So im gonna say yeah thats normal. gonna have to run it hard dude. takes more than one hard pull. Takes a couple weeks for some people depending miles and how hard you run it

That’s after the rings have set. About 20k on a new build. It wasn’t like that after the and the oil pressure bothers me as well. It should be at least around 50 running 15 to 17 rpm based on another that’s got quite a bit of mileage. The blow by was almost No. existent when new I know for sure up until the first oil change at 5k.

Is that on a Detroit? What about idle? i wanted to find out what detroits requirements are, but could only find the lowest operating idle. Any ideas where they typically like to see them set?

I was under the impression that it would continually use oil until the rings set. I went through about 2 gallons and she stopped using oil, that’s why I figured they had set.

I know the blow by wasn’t nearly this bad, my fuel mileage was better, and pressure was higher. Something has changed.

After install, (250 miles in) an injector failed due to a screw that had backed out from the factory. The oil mixed with quite fuel a bit of fuel and Im wondering if some damage was done in that process.

yeah but what kind of 20K miles? Are you a highway guy or a city guy? We run hard here. Talking about Hammer down heavy hard pulling, all day long. Traffic lights all day making the load maxed out 40 tons totally. Hills you name it. That takes almost a month to set em. Just cruising and babying motor for 20k isnt much. Just sayin

Boss finds that the money he spends on breaking engine in on the dyno is well worth it.. he swears his chances of a oil burner are way higher trying to break engine in with our 20 k outbound loads . Engines need to work hard at the beginning of their life it seems.

It takes 70k at least of Highway running to seal rings on a 60. They’ve been known to take longer. Once the fuel economy jumps up, almost 1 mpg, you’ll know they’re sealed up. As far as oil pressure. It’s good. Only time it’s over 50lbs.is after an oil change, or cold start.
