Okay, so I've done a lot of poking around the flatbed forum and saw everything I could think of, but this is new to me so "everything I can think of" probably won't cover everything. Now I'm not talking about edge protectors, tarps, chains, bungees, snap/ratchet binders, coil racks, dunnage, beacons, straps, cheater bar, winches, flags, or oversized banners. I'm talking about all the stuff that when you get to a shipper, your going to be kicking yourself because you don't have "it". Been driving (reefer/dry van) for 2 yrs and making the move to specialized, and everything that includes, I'll be hauling stepdeck, rgn, and trying to stay away from regular flat unless it pays pretty darn good, and a little bit of oversized but nothing crazy. SO what are all the things nobody mentions that I will inevitably need? Now I've already got a rain suit, ear protection, hard hat and a light for the hard hat, coveralls, my tool set, 3lb sledge, safety glasses, steel/composite toe boots, safety vest, and some good gloves. Now I like to be a good boy scout and be prepared but I know I'm probably missing some things. So if you could help a guy out I'd appreciate it TYIA

    Brain bucket.

Safety sleeves (or long sleeved shirts you don't care about) for loading steel coils.

A long stick for sliding hooks (both chain and strap) across the deck or inbetween layers of the load.

    An ENDLESS amount of patience

A positive and friendly attitude (faked if necessary)

A willingness to tarp in both 115 degree weather AND -32 degree weather with the wind blowing (rain and snow optional. Just not for you).

I do have a tape measure but if I'm honest that didn't cross my mind. Do I also need a load height stick in addition to the tape measure? And yes, 4 or 5 pairs of safety glasses, a couple tinted and a couple clear. Thank you

Brain Bucket???? I've got some long sleeves just for work. A long stick, are we talking like a broom handle with a hook towards the end of what exactly? Either way I'll have to get one for the truck.
    Patience✅
    Fake being polite if necessary✅
Willingness to be out in -30 ✅
Willingness to tarp in 115... Heck no I'm part of that 335-350lb big dudes club and I don't care for hot weather... Not one bit... But I'll do it, climb back in the truck down a couple bottles of water and roll off with the A/C on full blast. Thanks again driver

Of thing I've found is when you think you have everything you'll need, something else pops up that you'll need even more

8' stepladder, v-boards, nails, small tie downs, truck rope, red rags/flags and good clamps to secure them. Also 6 red clearance lamps for long loads and plenty of wire. Have fun ! :bootyshake:
