I’m about to buy a new glow plug, screen, and fuel filter for my Espar bunk heater. After watching the videos and seeing exactly how the process is done, I got to thinking, can these parts be cleaned with any success?
Seeing prices for the plug and removal socket from $54 bucks to $160. I’m guessing the cheaper one is an aftermarket.
My issues are excessive smoking when starting and sometimes the heater cutting off when I back off the temp. Although it seems the Power Service I treated my tanks with last week in Colorado seems to have remedied most of these two issues. Also seems like blowing the espar at full blast for a few minutes upon initial start up allows me to adjust the temp lower throughout the night. My company absolutely will not work on these things unless it’s crapped out completely and I was amazed at how simple they are to work on after watching a few videos on servicing them.
Anybody ever cleaned these parts instead of replaced them?

If it runs, disconnect the fuel line at the tank. Run a gallon of clean Kerosene thru the heater once a year. More if it's never been done before. Usually eliminates the smoking studder on start up without even taking it apart.

That socket you can make
it’s just a deep socket with a grove or slot cut on the sides for maybe a wire to pass??
Don’t remember if I made my own or just bought one but it’s a tool nonetheless that you’ll use more than onceLast edited: Jan 4, 2022

I'm actually having problems with mine right now. It will turn on and blow cold air, then shut off and say "no flame detected"
Just had it installed last year, haven't even used it much...D.Tibbitt Thanks this. -
Yours sounds like it might just be a bad plug.BoxCarKidd and JonJon78 Thank this. -
Ya, mines D2. Ive watched the videos but haven't been able to find a clear answer on my issue.
I did remove the glow pin plug yesterday and the tip didn't really have any soot at all on it. Didn't remove the screen but from what I could visually see it looked good/not clogged. I did buy the glow pin tool.and extra screen last year.
Maybe I'll bite the bullet and order a new glow pin and see if that resolves my issue. I believe they are like $150... I suppose if that doesn't solve the problem, I'll have a spare and will have to try to replace another part...LoneRanger and D.Tibbitt Thank this. -
