I got my license at a friend's company hears ago. Now I have my own and want to hire my cousin but I'm not sure if that same company training I did is still allowed. I thought I read somewhere back in January that as of this year, FMCSA is requiring all new drivers to go to school.
I tried to google it but I keep coming up with conflicting answers. Does anyone know for sure? The guy works an a truck repair shop and already has his permit. I took him out with me a few times and he drives great, doesn't need to spend a month in school. He's had the permit for more than 14 days so he can go test anytime if I'm able to sign off on it still.
Entry-Level Driver Training without CDL school. Still possible?

This is the publication I found: https://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/newsroom/...-training-standards-new-truck-and-bus-drivers
"The entry-level driver training Final Rule goes into effect on February 6, 2017, with a compliance date of February 2020."
So does that mean I can't sign off on his training anymore since it's past 2/6/2017? Or do I have until Feb 2020 to do it? -
Dug a little deeper:
2. ELDT Requirements for CDL Applicants Obtaining a CLP Before the Compliance Date of the Final Rule
As proposed, § 380.603(c)(1) required that individuals who obtain a CLP before the compliance date of the final rule would not be subject to ELDT requirements if they obtain a CDL within 360 days of obtaining a CLP. Therefore, under the NPRM, CLP holders who fail to obtain a CDL within the 360-day time frame would be required to complete ELDT before taking the required State-administered skills test.
If I'm reading that correctly, as long as he got his permit before 2020 (he already has it) and tests within 360 days, he is good. Am I missing something? -

The way I understand it you are correct.. Companies are being given to 2020 to get compliant..
You probably could call the Department of Motor Vehicles or wherever drivers go to get there CDL in your area and ask.
