Just curious as to what most of you have in your truck to keep you entertained when at truck stops or loading docks etc. Im also curious as to what most companies will allow you to have. (just recently read TMC just started to put converters in their trucks) Is it normal for a truck to have a tv, and a refrigerator or is that something that you gotta earn? Anyone have any gaming systems? Also, im interested in flatbedding which looks as though home weekly. so does that mean most companies that are home more wont allow tvs etc in the truck. thanks i appreciate the answers.

I think a fridge, microwave, dvd, game system, flatscreen, laptop, xm, cb, hookers, these are all pretty much the normal things truckers keep in their trucks. Most companies allow inverters just not hardwired. They want them to be plug-in. As far as being home weekly, this usually means for an hour or two Sunday afternoon. So don't fall for that one!

An inverter hardwired in with a circuit breaker to the battery is way better and safer than one plugged into a cigerette lighter!
TV's have been a big thing for years. They even sell them with a DC plug and trucks have hard wired Antennas and a DC plug in what is called the TV box.

There is no earning a TV. You go buy one. There is only one company that I know of that will NOT allow their drivers to have a TV and thats Wagner. This is due to a moron that had his TV on the passenger seat and watching I think the story goes a freaking soap and killed a family! The owner will fire you if he finds out there is one in the truck!

Me, I had a TV and sometimes when my son went with me a video game to keep him from bouncing off the walls!

I also kept a computer (tower unit) until I finally broke down and got an IBM Thinkpad. It wasn't long and cell rates came down along with broadband costs and I went that way and got rid of the TV. I also had a coffee maker and microwave.

No company is going to give you these things. You want them you buy them. Just remember that if you put all this stuff in your truck and you get fired way out in BFE and told to take a bus or get home any way you can you'll be doing the yard sale from the truck to sell most of this stuff or paying $50 for each piece as extra baggage to get it home on the bus or plane or renting a car to haul it all home in!
Me, my Laptop fits into a carry on bag and if the rest doesn't fit into my check on 1 free bag then it is either sold or trashed and I go home!

Be willing to part with anything in the truck! it's only money for a new one!

Love my XM, (must-have if you like radio out in the middle of nowhere) don't care for tv except for checking weather & news, but if there's something on DVD I have to see I use the laptop.

My company truck is a 09 Volvo 670 with the workstation/table option. The company bought 5 just like this one and it's seriously the most optioned out Volvo I've seen since I've had it. Power everything, the seats are lumbar with side ad back bolsters with a back cycler feature which basically inflates and deflates the lumbar airbags to give you a back massage as your driving.

It also has the built in inverter option, the inverters mounted to the frame behind the fairing on the drivers side, and there is 4 sets of household 120 plug in plates throughout the sleeper, just plug in your appliances, no extension cords to hide. I've got a microwave, toaster, coffee maker, tv, surround sound system, laptop and printer/copier/scanner all plugged in and everything runs fine, all at the same time even.

I wouldn't give this truck up for anything else on the road, its amazing how much of a difference your mood/attitude, sleep patterns etc can change just by having comforts of home in your truck.

i only used to run with an ordinary color tv, and some news magazines or newspapers. yeah, that got old fast when i had to do a 2 day layover, but the truck stops had tv's as well. some of you guys have it so much easier these days with the gadgets and gizmo's.......

if i were to go back on the road again, i'd still just want a tv, and now a dvd player, and my newspapers......and a hooker or two.......thanks chompi....!!

A laptop with high speed internet is your best friend. You can use MS Streets and Trips for your GPS, watch TV on Hulu, listen to music piped through the trucks speakers, browse the internet, keep in touch with family via video conferencing from Skype, play games online and offline, and a whole bunch of other things that I can't think of right now. A lot of laptops are even coming with TV cards built in so you can catch local broadcast TV.

Save yourself a whole bunch of money and invest it in a GOOD laptop and you're set...
