Hello everyone, my 2019 Cascadia DD15 got a problem recently, a warning sign always pops up on dash saying “Engine protection performing shutdown” with a sixty second countdown. The amber color engine check sign, red color engine stop sign, and low coolant sign show up as well. It appears about twenty times a day, probably 1/3 of the time it leads to a shutdownwhen countdown finishes , but most of the time the countdown disappears midway through or nothing happens even after finishing its countdown. I sent it to the dealer twice, but they couldn’t find what’s going on because it runs normally when the diagnostic computer is linked up.
Anybody experience this kind of problem before and how did you fix it ?

Probably low the coolant sensor is bad. I had that last winter in Chicago at -6F Low coolant level warning wit engine shutdown, but the coolant was full. I was able to unplug the coolant sensor at the plastic tank. Truck will keep going just fine. The air drier also stopped work when coolant sensor was unplugged on 2020 freightliner. I would try unplug sensor and see if you get warning still. Then get new sensors if that the problem

Got it. I’ll try and update it later. Thanks a lot.

Is there an Override Button on the dash somewhere?
If you press the Override Button before the countdown goes to zero, it will keep the truck running.
Make sure you have plenty of oil and coolant or you could damage the engine.Last edited: Aug 15, 2024

I listened Brandt's advise and replaced a coolant level sensor, the warning sign hasn't shown up in the past 2 weeks. Thank you to everybody.
