Hello,
I got an issue with my Volvo 780 and I have no idea what is going on with the truck. About 2 weeks ago while driving truck started loosing power when going uphill, shaking and in few minutes I got a code with engine light about misfire at cylinder one, by the time I got to the mechanic the parked regen light came up, I almost didn’t make to the mechanic before the engine got derated but I was lucky enough to get there in time - I couldn’t to do regen because of misfire and engine light up. So first guess was that the injector had some issues. I got that replaced with the injector cup and the DPF pomp with harness - there was a leak at the pomp cable socket and pomp failure. As soon as this was done I got the turbo code - mechanical failure. Got the turbo inspected and it was true, turbo didn’t work, so I got a new turbo. With new turbo I managed to get the parked regen going but I got the code p1133 for the NOX sensor, I got that replaced today too among with the air pressure sensor. So at this moment I got new injector and cup at cylinder one, new turbo, new NOX sensor for inlet, new air pressure sensor and the engine is still not running as it should be especially at idle. I'm still getting codes at the diagnostics but no engine light at all, engine is still shaking and not running as it should.
What I noticed on the test run is that under 1200RPMS turbo code comes up, at sometimes turbo kicks in and I can fly with this truck and at some points I barely make it up the hill with no trailer, above the 1200RPMS the NOX inlet sensor comes up. After about 15 minutes on the road the exhaust high temp code shows up and once a while misfire at cylinder one.
Ath the idle engine and the whole truck is shaking and RPMS go up and down from about 580 to 600. No codes and no check engine light.
There is no engine light coming up either at idle or while driving. Codes at the dashboard in the diagnostics system show up and disapear when RPMS change. There is also a bit of a smell of exhaust when on stop with higher RPMS but not much. I checked most of the cables I could think of, air or exhaust leaks and couldn’t find any.
The only odd think beside the way that engine is working is that there is about 75% of soot level on the filters and truck is not asking or letting me to do parked regeneration as it usually did and it shows Temporary Lockout - CHECK, I'm not sure if this should be like that as I never looked at it before.
What could it be? I’m kind of losing my mind over this truck.
Truck is from 2015, D13J engine vnl780
Thank You for help in advance.
Edit: I forgot to say that all filters: fuel, oil and air are brand new, changed in mean time of turbo change.

How many miles?
Sounds like turbo actuator failed.
Could also have a engine harness problem not making good connection with the injector...Last edited: Aug 21, 2018

First of the new diagnosis is that the new turbo is stuck in upwards position again, Turbo inside looks clean but what I noticed is that there was maybe 25ml of oil only in it. I will take it for inspection to see why it’s stuck again and I will post results later on.

Ok so, it looks like that the mechanic that changed turbo did a bad job. Turbo was blocked and destroyed inside from the carbon deposits and the turbo itself was not properly installed on the computer or it was not installed at all. I got turbo regenerated for $1450 and I'm waiting for it to be installed in new recommedned place.
For future reference to anyone: make sure that when new turbo is installed mechanic will check the soot level and carbon deposits in all exhaust sytem like pipes, egr system including cooler etc. If it wont be clean enough it will #### up the new turbo. Make sure that VGR is connected to computer twice while installation if you can, once before installation to set to "installation position" and once when installed to set up gears on it with new turbo.
Also Trubo was installed with silicone insted of seal from the set and it most probably locked the turbo or it helped the turbo to get stuck.
I will post later on with updates.Last edited: Aug 23, 2018

New update of my story
So new details coming up from engine are: Injector might not be the one that should be installed in this engine, also there was no orings installed when cups where changed. I'm going to change injector from cylinder one with injector from cylinder two for more details about it.
By the way I’m going to say straight forward as I’m sure about "quality of the turbo installation service", it was done at the mechanic place located in Mississauga at the FlyingJ plaza. Simply stay away. Those guys have no idea what they are doing, simple scam and nothing else. As soon as the truck is fixed I will contact him for refund of the costs but by knowing life I will have to sue them.
More info coming soon. -
PS. Good to see someone from home landPozdrawiam, Pawel
