Energizer Group 31 AGM Battery

The problem with Deep Cycle Batteries is that they aren't designed (and thus don't hold up very well), as cranking batteries... I've used AGM's in sailing applications (long duration - offshore stuff), and they work very well for "hotel" loads.... the boats always had a separate bank of batteries for the motor... I've been using the 31 HD from Tractor Supply, about $100 each, 900 CCA... work great for my 2003 Columbia, S60.

 

Yeah... the regular cranking batteries will carry the hotel loads, O.K., just not for as long... the safest option, depending on your application(s), may be to install a cold-start capacitor system, 2 cranking batteries on an isolated charging circuit, and 2 AGM, also on an isolated charging circuit... Expensive as all get out, but will definitely protect ALL of your systems: charging, cranking, and hotel load requirements.

a cheap generator or auxiliary power unit will take care of all your hotel needs. leave those batteries to do what they were designed for, crank the engine.
