Want to add Endorsements [Passenger and School Bus] to Georgia CDL Class A
Q1: Can I go directly to DDS and take the endorsement written tests?
Q2: How do I test for the "Road skill test" afterwards?
Q3: Do I have to be enrolled in a school or hired by a company to do this (even before the written tests at DDS)?
Please explain if anyone in GA has experience with this?
    Thank you.

    Adding CDL Endorsements

I have emailed and left messages.
NO ONE has responded in almost a month.

Just thought maybe someone here might have some advice?

You will need to road test in an actual school bus, but that’s about all I know. Most of the bus companies that I have seen do their own in house training, so I have no idea how to go about that without hiring on with one of those companies.

You do have to provide your own bus for the test just like the trucks

the procedure used to be just like the normal CDL

Take the written test and Get the learners permit , practice with a rider who has the full license , then make an appt and take the road test

it’s been about 15 years since I’ve done this so things may have changed

Every county is begging for bus drivers
And the county school district will pay for the training and testing .
Some counties even pay pretty good
And most counties have some full time drivers , there is almost always a bus load of kids going somewhere during the school day and they usually have full time drivers for that .

otherwise it’s normally part time morning and afternoon , but usually includes health ins and benifits ,
If you have a side hustle you can do during the middle of the day , to help boost your income a little .

Biggest problem with bus driving is the cargo …..

I don’t think you have to be enrolled in a school but I’m not sure if the passenger endorsement falls into the new rule requiring an approved school like the rest of the CDL .

i used to train people to get the passenger CDL for the church I attended

and rode with them to the dmv for the road test
Since they had their learners permit they had to have someone with a real passenger CDL along .

passing the pre trip exam was always the hard part

and I used to take them to the dmv in Milledgeville because it was much easier to get an appointment there , and their road test was rural backroads , the dmv in Gainesville was all on city streets .

Fastest way to find out would be call the county school district and ask about their training and testing requirements etc

I don’t get to middle GA much but north ga , it seems like every county has a bus parked by the school or at a busy intersection in town with a banner on it begging for drivers .

Seems like I remember seeing a banner in Fannin or Gilmer county offering a $5k sign on bonus or something like that .

I got all the endorsements when I did my CDL way back .
I had no intention of ever driving a bus but just wanted to see if I could pass all the tests .

I haven’t driven a big truck in years , and I’ve since let the haz mat lapse because the fingerprints and testing every four years got old . I did drive the church bus a few times .
Couldn’t ever decide if the little kids were more trouble than the old folks .
The kids were already rowdy but the old folks were nothing but complainers .

    Thank you.
    I appreciate your help.
There is definitely a school bus driver shortage.

being advertised here like crazy, "we will train you to be a school bus driver, apply now"

the school bus companies train and help you get your endorsements and testings.

most up here, are union, if it is for any city, and town..(usually teamsters)

private schools, some are some are not, union.
