Im trying to start my own business, I’m out here in Phoenix,AZ at the moment at i work for a concrete company driving a ready mix truck pays good but I want to start my own stuff get my own truck and trailer. Out here there is a lot of end dumps & flatbeds. End dumps are hauling a lot of demolition, aggregate, etc. The flatbeds are hauling a lot of varieties of stuff. I don’t mind either or But the problem that I’m facing is I don’t know where to get started or where to get contracts for these type of stuff. Any advice for it will be very appreciative thank you !

Side dumps are much safer then end dumps. They don't have the risk of tipping over.

They do tip over probably as much or more than end dumps and they also wreck your frame, they are also expected to go places anyone who respects their truck wouldn't go normal side dump loads are around 20-22 tons, they are heavy, while a frameless end dump will load between 23-25 tons, when you get paid by the ton it makes a big difference. I think the end dumps are more popular down in Arizona from what I see, once you get used to dumping one and what it should look like and feel like they are not that bad to deal with, how ever their is still a chance for the most experienced guy to losing one, frameless usually doesn't take the truck with it, but it can, I have seen them go both ways where it never took the truck and seen the whole combo go when ground gave way under the truck. I personally like flatbedding alot more, I hope I never have to hook back up to an end dump with my truck, but if the economy takes a giant dump, I might be forced to. Phoenix is not a high priced area for flat bedding or any freight for that matter.

I think some sort of long haul dump work might be doable, but today, you simply can't go wrong with a flatbed. I'd say, at least 75% of all the trucks I see in Colorado, are flatbed. I did a lot of dump work, local stuff, never seemed to pay very well, and so many factors, like weather, equipment. Flatbed opens up a whole lot of options, stuff not many can haul. Construction is huge and flatbed services them all.

Side dumps don't tip over. Their beds don't raise in the air 20ish feet.
Depending on what Side of the country you're in.
Side dumps can haul up to 40+ tons with the axles. There are 7 axles Side dumps. 2 axles can only haul 18 tons.

End dumps require 3 axles to haul 20 tons. They don't have the bridge to weigh 80k. Without that 3rd axle.
If you're dumping in wind. Have a load that won't come off the front. On uneven ground that can make the trailer tilt.

    They go over.

Very few end dumps have 3 axles. Or more.
Very few side dumps have 3 axles or less.
Side dumps haul more. Not end dumps.

End dumps are more dangerous then Side dumps.

I don't know where your seeing otherwise. I've seen end dumps. Have yet to see side dumps.

@snowwy Well I KNOW your information is in-correct as I pull and end dump and have been in this business going on 44 years so I know what I am talking about. We have many that have 3 and 4 axles some are frameless some are frame trailers. We don't use the side dumps as they require too much room in the areas that I go into. They DO turn over. Side dumps do not haul any more than an end dump. Normally steel bed END DUMPS are used for construction demo and rip rap as well as steel scrap and such. SOME people use aluminum end dumps for SOME scrap and some Construction Demo.

    That's OK.

I've pulled both ends and sides.
There aren't alot of ends in my area. Sides have taken over in the past 22 years.

You could not give me another full frame trailer, I liked my 1/4 frame, but frameless is still the way to go IMO

honestly, flatbeds are starting to get cheap enough, buy both, then of one slows down you have plan B, also, some companies may have occasional use for a flat on top of the dump, like delivering concrete blocks to customers etc
