I’ve pulled both and there’s pros and cons to both. If you’re strictly going to be hauling feed, and your state has ag exempt laws, a belt may be the way to go because the extra tare weight won’t be as big a factor if you can load 35 ton. And seldom have I seen a belt trailer lay over while unloading. On the flip side of that a belt trailer ain’t cheap. The belt gets worn, paddles need replaced and the wet kit is gonna be different because you need a flow out and a return. So 2 hydraulic hoses. We have a couple belt trailers where I work and when those guys haul sand it’s like nails on a chalkboard. You can just hear it on the chain and under the belt just grinding. Also if you’re branching out into other stuff, they won’t load a belt. For instance silica sand facilities or other “super clean” products won’t load a belt because you can’t get a belt trailer 100% clean with certainty. And the belt hangs under the trailer and picks up road grime. Like my buddy @Trashtrucker1707 says it can be hairy to say the least getting into a lot of feed mill customers with an end dump, and some won’t take an end dump at all. But it’s more versatile, lighter, and can get washed out clean. If you get a 39’ end dump you can haul anything you want and be more versatile. In one week I hauled feed from ks to Oklahoma, glass out of Oklahoma to Iowa and palletized cow hides back to KC. Plus, if you get an end dump you can post pictures of it on here standing up because we always like to see that. Best of luck!
