I'm getting a new truck, that won't have room for side mount toolboxes. I was asked what brand type of enclosed headache rack I want. Never looked into them at all before now. Would you get one with a window in it, or just go for the storage space?

It will need to store 3/8 chain and binders (10-12+ of each), 2inch ratchet straps (probably around 10-20) and edge protectors, some tools, extra lights air fittings etc. Might put the 1/2 ratchet binders, and 1/2 chain from lowboy in there too if in a bad area.

I would like something that is going to last, and work well (locks, doors).

    Here's what it's going on.

I'd definately get a window if I had the option....That little bit of lost space won't make or break your storage. Maybe you could also get one of those between the frame rails, drop in storage boxes. They go where the cat walk is, and that;s a nice place for chains, since it keeps your weight low (center of gravity) and you don't have to climb up and down to hang chains. Line the trays with a rubber mat too.....keeps them from getting beat up, and reduces noise.

For the amount of stuff you listed that you want stored. I don't see a window rack in your future unless you do something custom.

If you were working with something other than that pretty narrow daycab, might be a different story. Unless your ok with the storage rack/box sticking out on the sides.

I feel like Merritt makes middle of the road equipment. Not to expensive, has many options. That's what I would look for.

I am working towards a toolbox closet. It would leave people speechless. But its $5k and custom tailored. Doors open up providing shade, and down for tarps reach and accessibility to the 3 compartments at once, eliminating headache of doors blown by wind or swinging open while not properly latched on a turn and getting smashed by the trailer.
It comes with a deck to stand on also.

For that price, I would want side doors so I didnt have to get up on the catwalk period.
