Any of you guys successfully switch out your fan hub for an electric fan? Considering doing this since i ran across a tow truck with a 400 big cam that had 4 electric fans instead of a belt driven hub. But not sure how if it would cool enough on long grades grossing 80k. This particular operator stayed pretty much local in eastern north Carolina so no worry about making the engine work hard on long pulls.

Get your truck on the dyno with the stock fan running... install the electrics... dyno...

Be an interesting comparison. Just for the heck of it I would be curious to know what kind of CFM the mechanical fan pulls on my Freightshaker. No idea, Im going to guess roughly 15,000?

I do know the factory ford 6.0L fan on a f350 pulls over 10,000 cfm at full song.
I'm willing to bet the fans on our trucks pull at least double that..
You'll never get the cooling capability out of electric fans as you can the stock 36" 9 -11 blade fan.
If you actually use your truck like we do here in hot weather pulling 140,000lbs
Electric fans would never work , ever.

One of the mines here has all the rads/coolers in their Cat dozers mounted on the roof. There's about 8 electric fans total (I think they've got a radiator, condensor, hydraulic cooler and transmission cooler up there).
Edit: I forgot to mention each of these fans was about 18" so unless you were empty or on the flat all the time I don't think you'll get enough air moving through there.Last edited: Jul 19, 2016
