I've noticed this. Speaking to buddies of mine and my experience, it seems displaying we are running ELDs as an O/O is making us targets in weigh stations and "random" roadside inspections. Particulary, the KeepTruckin app. Since the mandate, displaying that sticker was up prior to it we have noticed we get stopped more. It starts off as a truck inspection of any level but they take a very keen interest in the log book. Going back 7 days, going through bills and fuel receipts, asking all the questions to ensure the app hasn't been altered because it let's you adjust your HOS and other details.
Anyone else experiencing this? I had ELDs prior and displayed it prior but the number of times I get checked has gone up. Sometimes it's the same pair of scales, they catch me both ways.
ELD decals making you a target?

I don't see it.
I had those stickers on the trucks and my inspection rate was always low and still is. I have to ask but I never remember any driver accept one who had to pull out receipts or was asked a lot of questions, and it is the same with me, I never been asked to produce a fuel receipt or any other one for that matter. However once I was asked why I had logged 53 hours sleeper and I told the guy because I was sleeping.bryan21384 and fargonaz Thank this. -

Why are you giving them fuel receipts and any bill except your currant bill?
You are not required to carry any extra bills or your fuel receipt. Just put them in a separate envelope and keep it out of sight.
If asked for fuel, toll, BOL's or any thing else just tell them, sorry already sent it into the office.
Remember that you only need your currant BOL (unless haz mat tanker, then you BOL from last product hauled when empty), registration and permits, along with log book or ELD or AOBRD.
No other paper work is required to be in your possession.12 ga, Studebaker Hawk, shogun and 3 others Thank this. -
I remember when I went through CDL school 9 years ago, the instructor scaring the crap out of us about all that receipt stuff. How a DOT officer will randomly jump up in cab and start rummaging through your garbage can, under your mattress, etc, looking for receipts and what not.
What a crock of crap that was...Oxbow, Hegemeister, Studebaker Hawk and 1 other person Thank this. -
The funny thing is, they got ELD installed on all trucks now, but drivers can edit everything they want, just like with paper -
Oregon DOT are famous for asking a driver for receipts or grabbing them off the floor. I've kept them from 2012 roughly one or two a month. I toss them on the corresponding month. Right on passenger side floorboard. I had fun with a rookie dot cop. Writing up a huge ticket. Till he handed back my receipts and logbook. I then thanked him for finding them, must of fallen out of seat or out of glovebox.
Me: " Oooohhh. Wow these are old 2012"
Cop: ."what do you mean 2012!?!?!"
Me: " here look for your self"
Cop: "stay right here I need to go check on something"
Cop comes back.
Cop: " your free to go"

All the times I've been inspected with elogs, I've never had a guy even ask me to show him my last 7 days, let alone fax the logs to him. I think a lot of it has to do with how one presents themselves upon eye contact and initial greeting.06driver and Snailexpress Thank this. -

I've been running an "eLog sticker" the past 5+ years and never had any issues, then or today. But I've always ran for mid-sized carriers who were just large enough to have a good known reputation by sight.
I haven't had to bother getting fuel receipts in over 8 years. And never had a truck searched. Some of you guys must look pretty rough or have that "twitchy eye" that naturally makes you look guilty of somethingsinglescrewshaker and 06driver Thank this.
