vee boards (big orange plastic ones) keep from damaging drywall. Carpet will not protect material. I have never damaged drywall with vee boards.

Ahhhhhhh......Grasshopper, I do not haul cheap freight so I never haul drywall. (We leave that garbage for bottom feeders like TMC and Maverick)

If I haul something that requires more edge protection than my trusty carpet......I have aluminum V-boards.

    Impossible!!!

But I don't see anywhere that says he needs them for drywall. He wanted edge protection for 4" straps. I'd be ###### if I'm pulling out a 8' section of v board just to protect a couple straps.

I am not talking about v-boards that you are referring too. I also carried those. Google vee boards. They are plastic orange strap protectors. Not like the cheap ones you see in truck stops or the ones mercer sales. They are great at protecting your straps and they distribute pressure good. The cheap little plastic ones will crack drywall. I have never damaged anything with this type of edge protector. They look like this.

Fire hose is great....stop by the fire house next time your home and they usually have some old hose lying around that they will just give to you.

For strap protectors you can't beat the ones at Tarp stops.com.
I bought 30 of them over a year ago and still have all of them. So far they are indestructible. And I have used them on sharp edged steel to wood crates. Money well spent.

For Vee Boards make your own as others have said.

Fire hose for chains. and at Tarp stops you can get metal protectors like the ones for straps but they are for chains. It keeps them from biting into
things that you can not put any marks on. Don't use them much, but when I need them I have them.

Nothing worse than needing something and not having it.[IMG]

I get mine from DJD Industries. They are extremely durable. You can Google them. Otherwise there are other options, just Google edge protectors.Watch out for cheap ones, I have been burned by them.
