Looking for an ecm repair shop wondering who's the best, who to avoid and who is honest and fair.

    Thank you.

Anyone have any input on this? I sure could use some. Not sure which direction to follow. Whether it be Cat reman. - Independent ecm repair. - Or aftermarket ecm like PDI or something.

Would like to end up with a pre low-nox file. Will Cat will do that?

I'm bringing the ecm to Caterpillar tomorrow so they can hook it up to their breakout cable to rule out the truck wiring.

The ecm was turned up to 570 in 2002 then in 2004 the engine was overhauled by a Cat authorized dealer who installed the low-nox file for the warranty. From what I understand once the low-nox file is installed it can't be overwritten, is that true?

Any input would be appreciated because I'm at a junction where I don't want to decide on a direction I might regret, if that makes any sense.

After talking with Kurt I decided to get a new or reman from Cat. He said it was a good decision because they were good with the warranty.

All of the ecm repair shops wouldn't take mine for a core because they have problems finding parts for the 40 pin. They said I had to buy outright. I thought, how will they warranty if they can't get parts and only 1 40 pin in stock.

Still have to get to the injecters to find the trim numbers but it runs good. Local guy said just get the numbers and he'll swing by wit ET and load them. I'd like to get by Kurt's for a tune, hopefully in the fall.

Luwi67 stated in post #7: "After talking with Kurt I decided to get a new or reman from Cat."
10R-5644: Cat® Reman Electronic Control Module (ECM) | Cat® Parts Store Click 'Add Equipment' to the left of the yellow magnifying glass at the top to enter your serial #.
This place does Cat ecm's and will test for $150. See last item on page 2. Shop - CatEcm
Products - Truck ECM $100 for basic diagnostic. $2,300 for ECM
