Free to download and try, not to own.

Youll have to have a printer in your truck, and the ability to print on demand anytime DOT says so...

IMO no faster way to piss off a DOT cop than to fiddle fart with a printer, and a great way to get yourself put out of service. Besides the fact youll ALWAYS have to have a laptop right there with you. Total PITA in my opinion.

I figured I'd try it thru the trial period, along with paper logs, and see how I like it...

Here's the scoop. The two logs that we run are DDL and Eclipse. Both have their merits (in our opinion) and both are worthwhile additions if you use a laptop in the truck or even to have a backup in the office.

Both have trial edition downloads so there is no mystery. Just DL them both and run the "Pepsi challenge" and decide which one works more to your liking.

You do not HAVE to own a printer for either of them but you DO have to be able to produce a signed, paper-copy of your last 8 days IF an inspector demands one. So you have several options still where they come in handy:

    1. Many inspectors are familiar and even have one or the other on their computer. In many of those cases, the inspector simply looks on your screen and moves on.

    2. More commonly they want to see some kind of paper version, so if you have a printer then you keep your last 8 days in a 3-ring binder printed and signed.

    3. If you do not have a printer then they both still have merit because they keep an electronic copy and they will alert you if you make a calculation error. You use them to fill out your paper logs without risk of any violations. (note that in NO CASE do we recommend throwing out the old paper logbooks entirely, ever)

Additional Eclipse features: (check DDL site for theirs because I'm not as familiar)
    - Online backup of your logs in case of computer crash
    - Automatically enters nearest location if you have a GPS receiver attached to your laptop.
    - Save daily log sheet to a file and email it to the company or anyone else.
    - Send them via electronic certified fax option to participating companies.
    - Download your companies "template" so that the completed paper or electric version looks just like your company custom logs. Many companies have templates already submitted and any can do so, if they choose.
    - Built-in modes now support the rules for long-haul, short-haul, busses, teams, Canada, etc.
    - Put it on as many computers or transfer it from machine to machine any time. Just bear in mind that it is licenses for one driver per $59.95 cost.
    - 8/2 splits and resets are covered.

If you get it from our site, then you get addition phone tech support, free electronic signature, and discount renewal subscription rate. It does not HAVE to be renewed, but if the DOT changes the rules or to use the online backup feature then those are enabled.

I use iDDL, the driver's daily log for the iphone. Yep, I got a laptop and printer/scanner in my truck. In the morning, I print the prior day's log sheet, 3-hole punch it and put it in my log sheet binder.
