Hello, I am new to this forum today; hopefully i have posted this question in the right place. I have not posted a question to a forum before, but i am in a bind and need to get my truck on the road ASAP.
I have a dump truck with an Eaton Fuller 1x610a super 10 transmission in it. yesterday while loaded it jumped out of 7th gear and now will not go into 7-10 gears. Well, it will go into the gears, but it does not accelerate in those gears.
It has been making a grinding noise when moving the shifter from the middle neutral position to the right neutral position (between 6th and 7th gear) for about a month. On the dash there is a shift map sticker that says "range changes automatically between 6th and 7th gear".
I was able to limp home yesterday as all gears 1-6 still function properly. I have called the Peterbilt house here in town, but of course they want me to bring it in. I am fairly mechanically inclined, have a full barn shop and i am strapped from Christmas. This repair needs to happen at home. i have the full service manual for my transmission i just need someone who can help me diagnose the problem and set me in the right direction.
Thank you for the help

sounds like the auto splitter went bad. thats where i would check. my dads was doing the same grinding noise when he got his super 10 had the vavle changed no more noise and shifts better now. right be for he changed it it seemed like it was slow going to the high side

^^^What he said. There is a range valve in the top plate that controls the range shift when you move the lever to the right side of the gates. If that isn't the problem, then the next thing to check would be the synchro's on the range section. If they're bad, it won't go into high range, where your 7-10 speeds are.

Thank you both for the reply, I will let you know where it ends up.

did you ever figure out what was wrong with the super 10? I have one that is doing the exact same thing and need some help. thanks

I have a Eaton super 10 that when shifted into the high side into 7th gear the tower shafts is popping out of the block shift selector I have replaced the tower and the block shift selector, what else could it be

What the hell do you mean by "popping out of the block shift selector"? Does the shifter stick fall out on the floor? Or does it pop back to neutral? Does it lift up and pop out, then you have to jam it back down? If it only happens in 7 up then it's only back half. Because the front only has 3 "gears" in it. The 7 and 9 are just reusing 3 and 5. The shift fork has a bar that extends over for the 7 and 9.
You have got to give a better description. -
