Most of the dump trucks at work have 8 LLL with the exception of the one I cut my teeth on and a international tractor. The one in my 95' Ford L9000 has a 8LLL but the 3rd gear is in the four slot. Just wondering if this is called something different and why is it set up different ?
Thanks for for the input.
Eaton fuller 8triple L with 3rd in the four slot.

double over 8LL maybe?
iv drove a double over 9 that had the u shaped shift pattern.
most people refer to that shift pattern as a u pattern as you go left up left down around the corner to right down with top gear to the dash. -
Well the term double over isn't really right. My old thirteen double over was the horseshoe or u pattern. The term double over came from a over drive in the front box driving an overdrive in the back box. Since the aux box on a double low is deep reduction there is only one over gear. Some where in the later trans missions they put a thrid rail in to make a u pattern an H pattern. I am so used to the horseshoe pattern I put an older top on my 20913B which made it a horseshoe pattern instead of an H pattern.

The senior truck driver at work said he thought it was called a " military " pattern. I kinda like it and it became natural in no time flat to shift like that. I thought it would be a pain in the keister to learn but it wasn't. Now that I am driving our dump trailer the tractor has a 8LL ( no deep reduction ) ? , and i find myself slipping it into 4th when I shouldn't.
Thanks for for the post guys, much appreciated. -
No such thing as a 8LLL, I'm sure it's an 8LL and has an over drive in the main box which is why high is up against the dash.

I've always heard it called simply "reverse pattern 8 spd" or 15 whatever the case may be. I missed it also when I went to an 18. No real reason though. When you were b.s.ing with other some guys would call it "going home gear " when the stick was up against the dash.

Thanks smokincat, I thnk this pic will explain why I called it a 8LLL. Misunderstanding.
BTW, the old L9000 has a 3406 in it as well( read your sig line ) but not sure if it's a C or a D. From what I have read about the 3406 I will assume it's either one or the other considering the age of the truck. It's a gravel humping motor. Easily the most reliable and cost effective engine in any of our dumps including the 13' Mack. -

You probably have a X series top plate that allows it to be shifted that way.
