Hello everyone. Here is brain teaser for you people who have worked on these transmissions.
I have a Eaton 3 pedal Auto shift transmission. It will not go into gear. Here is the problem, what happened, and what it is now doing.
The truck quit shifting, and had to be towed to the shop. The service light was on, and we were getting shift rail error codes. We replaced the main wiring harness for the transmission as it was old, and replaced with the updated version from Eaton. We doubted this would fix the problem, but felt it needed to be done. Next we replaced the XY shifter with a new genuine Eaton ( correct part number was used). Now the display went from dashes, and we had a "N" for neutral on the display. We were ready for the road ! Hold on Amigos, the display on the key pad would flash in the D mode, and the N for neutral on the display stayed solid N with no down or up arrows.
We had calibrated the new XY shifter several times during installation as per Eaton instructions, so we removed the XY shifter to verify correct operation in the cycle. it went side to side and forward and back, than to center.
Reinstalled the XY shifter, re-calibrated, and still the same problem. We are getting no new codes, all codes shown inactive. Tested the input speed shaft sensor and tested good (2k ohms). Checked the input shaft, pushed on the clutch pedal, and input shaft is not turning. replaced with new input speed shaft sensor, knowing they will test good, but have weak magnets. Still showing solid N with no up or down arrows. Forgot to mention the brake lights work, and their is only one sensor in this truck according to Volvo.
Have spoken with Eaton, and they have not really been much help. Anyone who has ran into this before, your advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

Dune, kind of next in line, but hate to change parts out that are not bad, was kind of hoping for some direction on this thing. Thanks

Make sure your batteries are clean, no corrosion, no broken cables, and sufficient air pressure. I have the 2 pedal auto, that's what I keep up with mine. Hope this helps
flood Thanks this. -
I would start with good clean TCU power and ground connections. Make sure the fuse and wiring from he batteries is in good shape.
-
I second the clean power from the battery..
Test at the TCU, there are 2 separate power wires..(I know!)

Are you sure its an electronic problem and not mechanical? Is the clutch in proper adjustment and fully releasing? If it drags the ECM might not put it into gear because it senses the transmission is still turning slightly.
-
if the ECM doesn't know you have your foot on the brakes it can't tell the TCM to go into gear.... remember the 2 (ECM & LCM) talk to each other... the brake light system has 1 switch to turn on the brake lights BUT also has a wire to tell the ECM you hit the brakes..... a quick way to check to see if the ECM knows your hitting the brakes is start the truck then hit the high idle, wait 10-30 sec. then hit ONLY the brake peddle if the idle drops then the ECM knows you hit it, if it doesn't then it's between the peddle and the ECM -
Two issues: low power...i.e. replacing the wiring harness may also refer to:
1), the power cable coming from the alternator. Check for replacement.
2), The air filter regulator may also need to be cleaned out.
