This week the 9 speed I drive started being really grabby, not wanting to come out of gear which makes it not so smooth getting into the next one. I noticed it first on a real cold ,about 9 degree morning. Had to use the clutch to get it out of gear on every shift. Now 3 days later and warmed up into the 50's still a tussle to get it out of gear. Today I got under the truck and check the tranny fluid and it was full. How I am driving it now is stab the clutch to get it out of gear and float it into the next one. Downshifts seem to be ok. Just upshifts. Not sure if it is a tranny problem or a throttle problem. It feels like if you put some pressure on the lever, let off the throttle and wait a second it comes out a little better. Been driving this truck for several yrs now and though it was always a little grabby, nothing like this.any ideas?

Depending on the pressure plate you have it sounds like its getting tired. On older style GM buses they used a sun gear, the older style had springs like trucks and built heavy.

Are you talking about the the clutch pressure plate? Don't see where that would be an issue when it does not slip and the grabbing only happens when trying to float it out of gear. It comes right out if you use the clutch. This is in an old Brigadier with a 671 2 stroke in it. Thx for helping.

Slipping would be a clutch issue , the pressure plate is what engages the package when you step on the clutch . The springs may be getting weak and not allowing full engagement . Its possibly another problem but without sitting in the actual truck its just a quick guess .

Also very familiar with the old 671 inline detroits , left handed versions . Great motor , can really let them scream . Leak like a ####### and brump brump brump lope sound is the best ! I grew up listening and breathing in the soot those things would spew. Nothing like hearing an old detroit !

NOOO, the clutch is not slipping and I do not use the clutch to shift. I put a little pressure on the lever, get off the throttle and it use to pop out of gear into neutral, ready to go into the next gear. Now it does not want to come out of gear unless you use the clutch. Feels like it just grabs it and won't let go. Yeah I love the old 2 strokes, they run forever. This is my third one. Wish they had a little more torque on the bottom end though.

I realize the clutch is not slipping. Are you talking about the the clutch pressure plate? Don't see where that would be an issue when it does not slip. < thats what you wrote . Its not a clutch problem . Its a disengagement problem. Could possibly be a bent fork too . But seriously how long ago was the clutch and assembly changed ?

is your power divider on, when i drove a mixer i would sometimes forget to turn it off and it would be a pain to shift till i turned it off

No,at least the light goes on and off with the pull switch and you can hear the air releasing. I am guessing it is not stuck on.

It's at 420K now and I don't think it has ever been changed. I have had it since 250K. Maybe my mind is not working tonight but I do not see it being a clutch or pressure plate issue . When I try to float out of one gear to the next is when it grabs. When I clutch it from one to the next it shifts fine. I thought at first it was maybe the cold, then maybe I was just having a really bad day, but today it was definitely something very difficult going on.
