Always been very curious on why most trucking companies wont run the east coast (New York, Mass, Penn, etc...) Is it because of all the traffic, maybe tolls? Any help is greatly appreciated to this question.![]()

What you said, plus more chance of accidents because of traffic. No truck stops or places to park. High fuel and road taxes, sorry rough roads that beat a truck to death. Tight streets and rude drivers, cops waiting to write you a ticket, CHEAP outbound loads, and drivers just don't want to go there.
DTP, mjd4277, Veteran driver and 2 others Thank this. -
I dont mind the east coast but the company I pull for pays really good to go there but other than that ya what stranger said.

How the heck you been Scuba? Long time no see!
I hope things are going well for you and you guys are on schedule... -
companies that WON'T run the east coast? heck, I'm having trouble finding a company that DOESN'T run in the mess of the mid-Atlantic to New England!

lets see, parking is a big problem. There just arent many truck friendly places in the northeast. Traffic is a pain in the rear. Roads constantly backed up because of traffic and soon to be accidents from snow and ice. Also, the I'm better than you attitude up north just turns drivers off. Its just seems to be a whole different ballgame compared to running west or south. Those who never run the northeast should never agree to loads there. This could go on and on but if you have driven for a while in the north and the south then you know what i say is true.
Veteran driver Thanks this. -

Scuba Steve, Dude, so if you go up and down I-95 between Philly and Boston, you won't see any trucking companies? No Schneiders, no Werner trucks, no J.B. Hunt, no Swift, no Trans-Am, no FFE, just independants? I think what you meant was why so many drivers don't like running the E. coast. It's congestion/lack of parking/lousy roads/tolls/antiquated warehouses. But, that's part of the adventure, right?

hmm
well i will be leaving the house sat for a monday morning delivery out on Long Island in a town called bayshore just off of the L.I.E.
of course I will be up the back way up 81 and 78 in NJ then on in to NY...
going this way I have not experienced difficulty in finding places to park...how ever I will be spending sunday night at my recievers dock...then reload 15 miles from there and back down the back way home...I guess its a fear thing...why people wont go up there not much different than Chicago..or any other Major city...guess once you have done it enough times you kinda know where and when you can go....oh yes my tolls will be much less going that route...will still cost about $150.00
PS
I am a truck driver: not a steering wheel holder
I GO WHERE THE FREIGHT TAKES ME...
Aint SKEERED to go anywhere -
I know you know to go in across 278 and 440 and not the GW. Less tolls that way! several place to sleep off exits, yes the BQE is tough with the rebuild but still you aren't paying the Triboro or whatever they call it now. Have fun as I miss NYC! I did a dedicated every week with multi drops and an over night thrown in every week!
OH do go out across the GW! That Verrazano is way to expensive west bound! I don't even know thetoll prices any more as it's been a while and I was lucky enough to have EXPass! That was the best thing about doing NYC was that little beeping noise when driving at 5mph through a toll plaza! Music to the ear!Last edited: Oct 29, 2010
